 My wife, myself and my 25 and 22 y/o sons are going. We have been on 6 prior cruises but none in the past 7 years. We are on the upper deck too.

In the past we have done both. We have booked in advance as well as on the cruise. I have yet to be "koncked" out of an excursion. We have even not booked anything and waitind till we got to the island and booked and have had no problems at all. Just do what is most comfortable for you.
