I have never purchased gold by the inch.  I would only if I wanted costume jewelry.  It is not presented as being good gold jewelery!  To the best of my knowledge the sales people haven't presented it as good gold jewelry. I have friends who bought it and they were told exactly what it was.  JoAnn
