    disappointing first cruise

My children, husband and I along with extended family members just returned from the November 17th cruise on the Fantasy.  It was our first cruise.  We will never forget the wonderful service of the onboard staff as well as the superb cuisine.  Our children enjoyed Camp Carnival and the kid-friendly activities kept them stimulated and entertained.  When we first arrived at our room, the stale cigarette smoke hit us and it seemed to worsen by trip's end.  Our understanding was that the ship had recently been refurbished.  The Progresso port was disgraceful.  There is a big difference between the ports along the Mexican riviera and this port which reminds me of Grand Isle in LA (no offense to this fishing spot).  We took a taxi to Merida hoping for improvement and found as it seemed that we were the only tourists there.  Also, make sure if you pay for a room with a balcony that your view is not completely blocked by a very large rescue boat, as was the case with our room.  We realized this the night before we embarked while looking at the deck plan.  When we contacted our CCL agent to clarify and to get an alternative room, he seemed to minimize the view as only slightly obstructed and focused on how lucky we were to get such a beautiful room.  It seems that if such important details continue to be overlooked by management, the wonderful service that the crew provides  will eventually be overshadowed by passengers' negative experiences.
