So, let me say that what happened here had nothing to do with the cruise or staff on the cruise. I only wished I'd have been warned. We went on the Blackbeards Deluxe package tour. We get to the island and there are 2 ladies with tables set up with their "custom made" jewelry. They had some neat necklance, wrist bands, anklets, etc. We asked several times "you made these yourself?" They said "Oh yes maam with materials from the island? So, I thought it would be pretty cool to bring the kids home some of this authentic Bahama jewerry. We thought we were being smart "talking down" the price. We got 3 necklaces, and anklet and 2 wrist bands for $65. I just knew our kids would think this stuff was pretty cool.
So, we get into town and start looking around at the shops. The EXACT same jewery, every piece, was hanging on the jewery rack with the companiy name on the price tag. The most expentive piece was $7.95 and they went down from there. The store owner said that they are from a company that ships them into the islands in bulk. I was so totally disappointed and felt very taken advantage of. So, beware of these people who are selling Homemade anything. Ask to see the materials they use, ask to see a demonstration and say things like "so, I won't find this anywhere else....The guy at the store said that what they do is illegal but no one will stop them. Hey, we can stop them. If they are selling regular ole jewelry they should do so honestly.
