Some small issues on Glory but still great time!!

Myself, mother and aunt just returned for our cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on the Glory.

Overall very good. However there were a few issues I would like to mention.

Do not order the steaks they were the worst I have ever had. Mine was all grissley and my mothers was literally black and dried out. I thought maybe it was just our table but when speaking with other passengers this seemed to be what everyone had. One gentleman even said it was like that the year before as well. So stay away from the steak!!

The entertainment in the theatre was lacking. The two lead singers were not very good. I felt like I was at an American Idol audition. The girl was better than the man but not by much. They seemed to think if they sang louder or yelled it out in the microphone it would sound better. All that did was give us a headached and for that reason we ended up only going to three shows. The material of the shows was very amateurish as well. I was expecting big Vegas style shows as that is what they advertise. Unfortunately that is not what they give you. We had been told by several staff not to miss the Rockin Broadway show as it was the best one of the week. It was sad really. They did things like Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose etc. I would have expected better.

The dancers were good but when you are given such cheesy shows it doesn't help them showcase their talent very well.

The service in the dining rooms, bars and of course your cabin stewards was AWESOME!!! I cannot say enough for the ladies and gentlemen as they work like dogs and always have a smile for you. Osnel was our cabin steward and Ikeada was our waiter they were both excellent!!

The pursers desk unfortunately had some ladies with attitude. I wish I knew her name but she is european, blond with bobbed hair..avoid her lol. She was very rude and basically asked my mother is she was stupid and couldn't read when she inquired about a charge on the bill. Which in the end was a mistake by the cruise line so she was entitled to ask about it in the end. Manuel was excellent at the desk so try to deal with him if you can very polite and helpful and he actually smiled.

Overall we had a wonderful time. The ship is beautiful, clean and the food and service is great overall. I would still recommend this ship but not if you are used to cruising with Princess etc. I would say it is a good 4 star accomodation.

Carnival Glory 4/12 Good but not cruise Carnival again.

A bad experience with not being seated together and getting a bad wait staff at table 225 in Golden upstairs turned us off Carnival. They wouldn't hear of changing anything so our 17 could be together. 4 were separated at an upstairs unpleasant table.

Downstairs Lim and Benji and Punya, awesome awesome awesome. We loved them. Benji is Thai and my brother in law and sister have been to Thai and speak a little of the language.

Stateroom very clean, although didn't see Ronmel for first two days until the steward for some of our group in the opposite hallway talked to him.  They had Calvert who was awesome awesome awesome. We all signed a letter and left it with purser for Captain for Calvert.  Room always clean and I lost something and went on my hands and kneees under the bed and it was clean as a whistle under there. They changed a mattress for my sister that was too hard. Great people.

Food was good, some great, although one night three steaks all fatty sent back. Prime rib was to die for and so is the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. And the diet desserts were awesome too tried some of those also. Buffets were good and varied. Hamburg, hot dogs and fries on LIdo awesome.

Stop in Nassau was only 4 hours which limited shore excursions. Should be addressed. Like a wasted day.

Last two days at sea very rocky, no one ill but it was tiring after two days and some of us are still rocking from the experience. Two days is too long at sea should be one day at a time even without the CONSTANT rocking it would have been tiresome.

Shows were good, Ami Castro was an awesome singer she has a great voice, guy with her ??? okay but not great. She should be on Broadway. Ryan cruise director really good. Went to Karaoke one night and laughed a lot. Then a comedian who's name escapes me but who did a to die for imitation of a crane, had me laughing so hard I was holding my temples.

Overall a good experience for 14 first timers but the dining issue turned us off Carnival for good.

Oh Glory!

Carnival has out classed the Cruise industry with this one.  What an absolute BEAUTIFUL place to spend 7 or 8 days.  There's enough room for everyone with enough things to do.  My oldest kept saying, "I have to remind myself that this is a ship and not a resort".

The only suggestions I have are for the guests.  There is enough food service on this ship to satisfy your every craving, but keep reminded that there is enough food service on this ship that you really don't have to treat each other poorly to get to that food.  There is no competition for food, everyone wins on Glory.

Also, the deck chairs are highly coveted space.  I understand.  Yet, manners again should come in to play.  Your day isn't going to be ruined if you don't get front row center stage on the Lido.  And several guests found that putting the Carnival towels on the chair at 8 in the morning only to return around noon might not be a good idea.

This ship is my favorite so far, it's big, it's beautiful, and it's got more than enough amenities for the amount of guests it will accomodate.  But folk, there is enough of everything to go around.  Take the island attitude when you embark....no worries, it's aerie.

Glory

We just got back from a wonderful 7 night cruise on the Glory to the Western Carribean and LOVED it!!

We took two teenage boys and my 9 year old daughter and they all loved it!!  Obviously, the kids are different ages but they all had so much fun doing planned activiities or just relaxing poolside.  All of the kids were sad to leave the ship!!  My teenagers made so many friends during our cruise!  They exchanged numbers and email addresses and hope to stay in touch!  They may even get their parents to all book another cruise on the glory to meet up again!!

We had lovely staterooms with balconies and we loved having coffee every morning on the balcony!!

The teenagers could find food 24-7 (they sleep in past breakfast, but could order room service whenever they woke up!).

My younger child loved the 24-7 ice cream machine!

I can't say enough about how wonderful the entire experience was!!  We would love to sail on the Glory again!!

Cruising with Children (with warnings)

I will begin by telling you that we just sailed on the Glory at the beginning of February and we had a very nice time.  But as an experienced cruiser we encountered a few things that I would caution many traveling with young children.

First and foremost is dining.  I have always requested the early seating and was accomodated.  This time we were not and it could not be changed.  There was no way that our children (3, 8 and 9) and elderly parents were going to make it until 8:00 to begin the dining process.  While our reservation said that we were confirmed for early seating, it was not the case.  I would recommend making this mandatory under the special request portion of booking.  We ended up putting the older kids in the Camp Carnival dining at 5:45 each night and eating at the Red Sail buffet with my youngest and parents.  Big downer.

Other food choices were great.  There is the standard buffet, a deli, an oriental area, fish and chips station, 24 hour pizza stand, sushi bar (yes, no charge) and a grill that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken breast and steak sandwiches.  Room service menu was outstanding.  Never ending ice cream on deck is a big winner with the kids.

As for the Western Caribbean itinerary I was not that impressed with only 3 ports of call.  For a cruise of this duration the children become stir crazy, even with the kids programs available.  Cozumel is fine to just hop in a cab and go to a beach.  Nothing to do in Belize if you don't have an excursion planned.  The Bahamas is .... well, it is the Bahamas.  You get off of the ship and either go to a beach or go shopping.  I have hit this port 4 times and there is no change.  We ended up at Cable Beach once again and it it fine for the kids if they care to go swimming, jet skiing or just play in the sand.  Make sure you have a plan ahead of time or they will be bored in port.  Lots of days at sea and if they are not one to go to Camp Carnival you will have to be their best friend.  I am sure it would be different if there were more kids on board when we went, but youngsters are restless at sea.  They haven't figured out the whole relaxation thing yet.

Here is the BIGGIE!!!  After eating some great food onboard for a couple of days my wife needed to use the "Ladies Room" a few times too often the morning we were pulling into Cozumel.  She decided to go to the infirmary to see if they had some Pepto Bismol or Immodium to help her out.  They gave her some medication and as she signed out they informed her that it was a Center for Disease Control (CDC) mandate that she be isolated to the ship for 24 hours in the event that she was carrying a virus of some sort!!!  If she was caught getting off of the ship then a fine would be imposed.  I had to get off the ship with the three kids and just walk around the shopping area.  The next day we pulled into Belize before the 24 hours were up and when she put her boarding card in the reader to hop off the alarms went off.  Calls were made to the infirmary and they ended up lifting the isolation a half hour early.  So if you are prone to some bowel syndrome after eating rich foods, I would suggest you have your supply of health care remedies in your travel bag.  But if you truly have an illness I agree that you should not bring it off the ship with you.  Everyone is aware of how they function and that should be taken into consideration.

Overall, it was a very nice experience.  Entertainment for the adults was great and the Camp Carnival Counselors were very good with the kids.  Never the same thing twice and there is always something to do.  Food choices outside of the Dining Room was plentiful and well done.  Rooms were spacious and very clean.  Pools were too small and very cold since they are salt water, pumped in from the sea.  Temperatures were given of all the pools on the information channel in your room.  Two of the pools stayed around 72 - 75 degrees and the middle pool was around 78 degrees.  For that reason you find the hot tubs crowded.  The slide was one of the best water slides that I have been on for that size.  Kids loved it.  Deck plan is not the best that I have seen.  It appears too crowded with very little room to move in the main areas.  There are basketball and volleyball courts as well as a 9 hole miniature golf course that is very nice on the top deck by the smoke stack.

One last thing.  If you are not a smoker, beware.  The casino area and a few of the bars allow smoking.  Quite a bit different than the last RCCL cruise I took a couple years back.  It kept me away from the Piano Bar and Jazz club and limited my time in the Casino.  I guess I am not used to it anymore.

Feel free to reply with any questions I can answer.

Nice job Carnival!!

tendering for the disabled?????

We are 2 couples planning a cruise to Western Caribean in April 2008 aboard the Glory and 2 of our party use mobility scooters to get around due to disability. We do not need a handicap cabin and they have no problem walking very short distances so tranfering to a tender would be no problem for them; however, they would need their scooters also tendered in.We want to be able to sightsee. We have read conflicting reports online regarding the cruise line transfering the scooters for us:ie Sherman's travels and Cruise Critic. Has anyone experienced the need to be tendered in who relies on an electric wheelchair or a mobility scooter? Did the ship allow this? We don't want to book if there is any chance we can't all go ashore. We know that Belize only tenders; however, both Nassau and Cozumel could possibly dock. ( first come first served and there might be a chance we would tender in to shore). Unfortunately, our travel agent is also getting conflicting answers from the cruise line regarding this same situation. We love cruising and hope those days are not over.

January 12th Glory sailing

I've read lots of great reviews about the Glory and a few not-so-great.  I've been booked for several months for the Jan. 12th sailing on the Glory. Is there much to do in Belize if you don't scuba?  I've been on the Destiny (twice), Imagination, Victory, Fantasy, and the Pride. How does the Glory compare with these ships.  I had a blast on all of them and particularly loved the Victory and Fantasy. You can't beat Carnival for the price and what you get. I've done Holland and Norwegian, too, but I always come back to Carnival.  (Norwegian is great, too.)
