Bring wine on airplane or buy in Miami?

My husband and I are big wine drinkers and would like to bring some wine with us on the cruise. Apparently, we are allowed two bottles per person. We're flying into Miami, and I'm not sure how to best transport wine. Obviously, we can't carry it on board. Does anyone have experience checking wine and suggestions on how to do it so the bottles don't break? Or is there a decent wine store (we're not looking for cheapie gas station wine) on the way to the port from the Miami airport? We'll be cabbing to the port. Thanks!

You are allowed 1 bottle per person.  and you have to be careful that you do not go over weight with your luggage when flying because they will charge you if you do.

I have heard that the cab drivers will stop for you but it will be on a running meter... so not sure just how fast that would run up.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like it may not be worth it. We'll just buy a package on the boat..,er, ship!

If you pack in in your bags before flying. . .wrap it iin bubble wrap.  As you know. . you can not carry it on board a plane.

You could leave it in your bags and check them with the porters at the port curb check in.  They say they xray every bag. . .can't say that they do or do not.  Worst that could happen is you'll get a note on your door requesting you to come to the "nasty room" to claim your bag.  You'll open it and they will hold your wine until the end of the cruise.

OR. . .and don't know about this for wine. . .you can order Rum Runner Flasks. . .spill prook and xray proof.  Each bag will hold about a liter and lays nice in your bag for air planes or ships.

Do a google for  Rum Runner Flasks. .order and fill the night before you fly.  Like I say, can't say how it would work for wines. . .other I have talked to use it for other drinks of choice.Beer
