Don't sail carnival !!!! PLEASE READ!!!!!

I hope you read this before you sail.My family and I went on a Canadian cruise on August 29,2009 out of NYC. Mind you this is our 9th cruise but our first and LAST with Carnival. We booked the best room they had, a hugh suite that was very nice. The only problem was it stunk like cigarette smoke. I hate the smell of cigarettes and my 8 year old has asthma. When I booked this cruise I was told smoking was only permitted in certain areas. When I was on the ship people were smoking everywhere. In there rooms and in the hallways. It was gross. When I complained I was told they have rights as well. So everynight my family and I slept or tried to smelling smoke. Then to top it off we all got food posioning. It was HORRIBLE!..  The worst part as we all were vomiting and stuck in our rooms was that the crew could care less. I called the nurse for some meds and was told I was better off not getting assistance due to the fact we would be reported to the CDC and have trouble getting off the ship. This entire cruise was a nightmare and when I tell you that from the CEO down to customer service they could care less about your satisfaction. This cruise line is sub-standard compared to NCL or Royal. The ship is dirty the crew is rude and uncaring and I would not sail with them even if it was for free!

TROLL.....Why didnt you have them come spray your room to get the smoke smell out? Why dont you show your name? We all have problems life is NOT perfect but are you sure it was food poisiong? The staff cant help you if your sick so I dont know what you want from them, someone to hold your hair back when you puke,or someone to rub your belly since you say you ate bad food? Well now you can go to RC or another line but Carnival...go complain to someone who really believes you cause I sure dont. Oh why did you wait so long to post your lies if you were that unhappy? I cant wait to cruise again....have a great life on rc

I just  left the spirit and it was spotless. Of course the decks early in the morning still had the remants of the slobs that can't pick up after themselves: beer bottles, glasses and cigarette butts. But we saw the crew combing the decks picking up and washing down.

On our cruise there was a woman who had all your symptoms and collapsed at the infirmary. She also said it was food poison but they quaranteed her to her room. most of the table she sat at had the same food and didn't get sick.

IMHO, you would have enjoyed your cruise a lot more, if you weren't obsessed in searching room by room to look for smokers.  I mean, you had to be checking out everyone else's cabin (pretty nosey, aren't you) in order to back up your claim that fellow passengers were all smoking in "there" rooms.

It wasn't food poisoning.  If it were, the entire ship would have gotten sick and we would have heard about it on CNN.  Instead, you simply caught a bacterium or virus from NOT WASHING YOUR HANDS before you ate.  Sorry to say, being it your own dumb fault, I would care less too.

vomitting - sea sickness!  or flu.  I've cruised with Carnival since 1989 and have never once been sick eating their food, the ships have always been very clean, the staff always pleasant and happy to help out.  If that person was quaranteed to her room it definitely WAS NOT FOOD POISONING because they don't quaranteed people for that.

A lot of people tend to forget to wash their hands a lot on cruise ships.  This eliminates flus etc... I carry purel gel with me and clean my hands a lot.  Always better to be safe than sorry.

Have you ever checked the dictionary?  The word is quarantined, not guaranteed.  As someone stated, if you had food poisioning, everyone eating that certain food would also have food poisoning.  I wonder how much you were paid by Royal?  I think we have all read the link that confirms that RCCL  does pay people to bash Carnival.  We have cruised RCCL, never again since finding Carnival.

Do you realize Carnival Lines owns almost every other cruise line?  Good luck going to another line.  Wow you must of had an unusual time because I cant imagine the staff being any nicer or helpful.  As far as the smoke there are many places especially where food is served, smoking is not allowed.  I am sure if you asked the people smoking to stop in a nice way they would.  You really cant blame Carnival for the rudeness of others.  The nurse is right, you would be confined to ship for 24 hours at least if your sick.  I would continue to speak with customer service until I got satisfaction,  I use bi-lateral crutches and they go out of there way to accomadate my needs. Well again good luck in the future, but be sure and check which lines are owned by Carnival so you wont be disappointed again.

I agree with you I was on board The Carnival  in August and my husband and children were tageted like criminals by an Indian security officer that felt we were to noisy. Mind you people were drunk, with no shirts, and loud but we wre targeted and they decided that they would knock on our doors even if we laughed or coughed too loud. This was a problem it was personal maybe because my husband and I had locks and wre Afircan desendants. Imagine they wre minorities and they were profiling us. The Europeans treated us better I was very dismayed. I WON'T TRAVEL CARNIVAL AGAIN.

I am willing to bet you are the average middle class people that expect to be treated as if you were royalty. I am sure NCL & Royal are better. You also  paid much more. Did you actually believe you were going to get the same enviroment but pay way less? Carnival gives more bang for your buck. I suggest in the future you continue to pay for the high dollar cruise lines if that's what you expect or could it be you cannot afford to live as you think you should?

Did you say you are Afircan?  Is that from Afirca?

Anonymous - had you done even minor research when booking, you would have been aware that Carnival (and most other lines) allow smoking in Cabins (except spa cabins), hallways, and much of the ship other than food-service areas, and you wouldn't have wasted your time investigating each cabin to confirm an already known fact.  ken
