    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

marlene - Yeah, you're right - I would have to go "out of my way" to go outside of my apartment where someone is smoking near the gate. I would have to go out of my way to be driving at night and for someone in front of me to flick a cigarette onto my windshield so that orange sparks go flying everywhere and almost cause me to crash. I would have to go out of my way to be enjoying a nice patio lunch or dinner, and then realize I have to move because a smoker (who was seated after me) lit up a cigarette. I would have to go out of my way to be walking anywhere outside, down the sidewalk, down the street, in front of the mall... to be exposed to cigarette smoke. I didn't know I could just stay indoors where "smoking is prohibited" all the time, and never go outside where it's allowed, ever. Thank you for that obvious solution to my problem!

And nice try, equating it to drinking, but I don't drink. And even if I did, it's not the same. Any idiot who vomits from drinking (no matter where they are) has obviously abused alcohol. It wouldn't be a problem for someone drinking responsibly. I just wish certain people would smoke responsibly, away from other people like they're asked, instead of complaining about the "limited smoking areas." If you're one of those responsible people, then I don't know why you have a problem with my post. If you're not one of those people, enough said.

Also very cute comparing it to the "air in LA!" LOL That's hilarious. I won't argue that it's smoggy, but last time I checked, the cancer research foundation wasn't working on a way to clean up the air in LA. There isn't tons of research proving that thousands of LA residents are dying from the "smog" like they are from SMOKING! Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths, and the 30 percent of all cancer deaths - the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. Secondhand smoke causes around 3,000 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers per year. So... Thanks for playing! But try again.

Unfortunately, the price of living in a free (for now) society is that you don't get to have everything you want.

Swimware27 - Not sure if you read the original post, but I agree with you. It was the *smokers* who were complaining about "limited smoking areas," and when I responded with an attitude similar to yours (that they would just have to "deal with it" much like non-smokers have done all along) - they didn't like it very much. So my last post was just in response to something else they had written, not that I expect to get everything I want. Smile Thanks for participating.

    Happy cruising!!

Hey Wendy! I never knew you smoked! I just knew you were smoking! Huggles!

Why is my cruise counter messed up? I cruise in 5.5 days, not 4!

We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!

I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.

Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

We went on two Norwegian Cruise Line Tramp Steamer Cruises - Thank goodness we were too busy on our honeymoon in 1978 to realize how crummy the cruise actually was - Then they ruined our 2007 Hawaii Cruise that was my retirement gift from my wife - Two chances is enough! - Never again!

Our current future dream cruise is 15 days back-to-back on the Freedom / 8-day Eastern (Fort Lauderdale) and the Valor / 7-day Western (Port of Miami) with a 45 minute private shuttle ride in between the two Fun Ships.

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

tekel8 - What happened? I thought we had made peace? Well, just to clarify, it's not that I'm brining drama into "all" the posts - it was reading this original post "unhappy with Splendor" that led me to write "Hooray" in the first place. (So contrary to popular belief, I don't just go around searching for posts to argue about smoking. It seems all the forums, as you called it, is actually only these two ;) In any case, what you read above was in response to marlene's "dramatic" rebuttal that I must be going "out of my way" to breathe in smoke. I'm sure you, as a considerate smoker, know that isn't true. She also said that LA air is supposedly just as bad, or worse, than second hand smoke... which, as I'm sure you also know, is a ridiculous statement since no one seems to be dying from it! lol But, as I told you before, despite the facts or "dramatics" stated in my last post, I don't have a problem with polite smokers or even smokers in general. It's the ones in denial, actually trying to convince themselves and others that they're not hurting anyone because it's no worse than "smog." So I just wanted to correct her on that point by stating the facts. You are at least aware that it is hurting people, or bothering them, and are polite about it. So I hope you don't find this as a reason to change your mind about being a considerate smoker on your next cruise!

     Smile

I'm with you Tiki Shop Girl. I got this close to just deleting my whole post from before, but I couldn't figure out how. Then I just go sucked into a whirlpool of defending myself against everyone, lol. - I wouldn't have posted it in the first place if I would've known it would go in this direction...Tongue Tied

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

Becky, when we post most of the time it is to is to help other people be aware of things about the cruise.  When it was brought up about the smoking, it was because it is deferent on the Splendor that on any other Carnival cruise ships.  When I said security said there was no smoking where I was it was because I asked him.  The Caper states "Guest are welcome to smoke in the following areas.  The Royal Flush Casino, Grand Piano Lounge and Our House Sports Bar.  Cigar smoking is allowed in the Robusto Cigar bar located on deck 4 aft.  Smoking on the open deck is strictly prohibited except on the starboard (right) side of Deck 10 and 11.  Deck 10 aft is the most popular area to smoke."  When I asked the security officer if smoking was allowed where I was, I was on the starboard side of of deck 10.  I did not smoke there even though I knew it was listed as a smoking area.  You jumped to a conclusion because I did not elaborate on the security officer.  Because so many of us that smoke are seniors and are limited to our walking abilities, walking to the back of the ship can be difficult at times.  When you posted, you were yelling and you were rude in your post.  When you attack people you have to expect them to be angry.  Politics have no place on these posts.

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

marlene - You are right (no, really this time ;) lol - I had a very nice chat with Tiki Shop Girl, and she politely explained things from your (and other people's) point of view. I guess I was just tired of all the "unjustified" negative reviews about Splendor due to what seemed like one aspect, when so many other people had positive things to say - not that that was an excuse for me to go ranting and raving O:o) But I do see your point, thank you for explaining. Even though I don't smoke, and it bothers me when others do, I can see how that would be annoying for you to go to Timbuktu just to smoke! lol You are also very considerate not to smoke there, even though it was supposed to be a smoking area :) And just so you know, I apologize for being rude. I just read a lot of smokers say that Carnival had a fair smoking policy, so I couldn't figure out why so many smokers were still complaining. Everyone's situation (like yours) is different, and I see that now. If smokers are pointing out that "the smoking options are poor" than it's just to help/inform the other smokers, not to complain and insult the non-smokers and wish you could blow it in their faces! LOL and I guess that's how I took it O:-) No hard feelings...

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

Interesting article, Luv2cruise! Thanks for sharing...Tongue Tied That was scary... lol. Tiki Shop Girl also pointed out some health statistics about LA's atmosphere. I guess it just wasn't a big deal to me since I just moved here about a year ago, and although it's apparently affecting us long-term, I'm usually breathing okay unless someone's smoking ;) lol - But that is bad about the atmosphere Sad Unfortunately we don't have as much control over the use of polluting automobiles, machinery, and products (for every-day funcionality and survival), as we do over our habits.
