Sage56  marlene,  We all get that all the time.  My favorite is when I'm not even smoking, just buying a pack at the store and the person behind me tells me "You know that's bad for your health".  My standard line back is "So is minding other peoples business!"  I am a courteous smoker and would need blow in other people faces and if I see someone having trouble with my smoke even if I'm in a smoking area I will try to get away from them as best I can.  Now if they are in the smoking area and are rude, well all bets are off.  I'm Sailing Splendor in January and will have a great time no matter smoking area or no smoking area.

You guys make some interesting points which brings this next statement to my mind.  I quit  smoking because it will kill me, unfortunately, the absence of smoking made all the food taste SOOO much better so I gained quite a bit of weight,  and this too will kill me. Can anyone please tell me exactly what I can do that isn't going to kill me? Hmm

Jenn, I don't think any of us will live forever.  My husband gained alot of weight when he quit and food doesn't taste good to him anymore.  He hasn't felt as good either.   I put on 30 lbs with menopause and am really afraid what will happen if I quit.  Because I have arthritis I am limited to the exercising I can do.  So I can't afford to gain more weight.       Lucy, don't you worry girl , you are going to have a wonderful time.  There are so many things to do and enjoy every minute of it.

These guys shouldn't complain. One time I asked oue waiter for an extra appetizer, and he punched me in the face! Later I asked where the tender was, and they tossed me over the side. Wink

Hmmmm, the last time I sailed with Carnival they had servers pushing drink carts throughout the buffet area during breakfast, do they not do this on the Splendor?

When I was on the Splendor in April there were servers pushing drink carts through the buffet during breakfast.

Re: the ship being difficult to get around, I found the Lido Deck to be a pain.  The set up is way too choppy and regardless of time of day always seemed to be a "traffic jam" in any and all of the food areas.   Was not "user friendly" for my 87 year old mother and was very frustrating for her and annoying to me.  Other than that, the ship was pretty much the same as any Carnival ship and if you are trying to get from front to back of the ship, travel the Promenade Deck and then jump up or down to whatever deck you want from there.

Before I cruised on the Splendor I was expecting it to become my favorite ship.   Nope, didn't quite happen and the Victory is still my favorite, followed by the Imagination and the Valor.

I thought it would be my favorite also but I think the Conquest is still the best.  I'll just have to cruise on the Victory, Valor and Imagination to see if you are right.lol

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

We were on the sailing before you and loved it.  Yes it was alittle confusing getting around the ship at first but we weren't going anywhere. LOL

All of our dining room meals were very good to excellent.  I will say breakfast and lunch at the buffet were better than dinner which we had to do a couple of times since we weren't feeling well, motion sickness.  Dinner on Lido is very limited, no separate stations for salad, desserts, etc.

We'd do this cruise again in a heartbeat but not this early into fall, maybe later on in the year or spring time, way to humid, very uncomfortable.

This was our only complaint but it's nobody's fault but mine because I'm the one that booked it!

Yes, and they charged my S&S card 200.00 for "Swimming With Sharks" excursion.

OMG...Too Funny, did your waiter tell you that was your dinner entertainment for the night or maybe the next table's entertainment?  I soooo agree with most of you, if someone wants to complain they will find the smallest things to complain about, I'm just not that person, I have had a good time on every cruise I've been on, sure there were things I wasn't too happy with on some but you just chalk it up to a lesson learned for the next time.

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

Wow, I just got back from the Splendor yesterday and had a wonderful time.  I had no problems at all that are worth mentioning.  I don't smoke but my wife is very sensitive to smoke and the smokers on board our ship didn't seem to have a problem finding a spot to smoke.  The drink staions are only a few feet from the pool.  Food was great, the ship was beautiful and had no problems finding my way around. The only suggestion I would make to any one on carnival is to turn the air conditioning down.  It was always so cold inside the ship.  I had very high expectations for this ship so much my wife was worried I would be dissappointed.  They met and exceeded my expectations.  It was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone I talked to.

    Re: Unhappy with Splendor

We just got off the Splendor yesterday.  We had the early seating in the Black Pearl and our wait staff was the best we have ever had on any cruise. We found the food much better on this ship than on the Pride.   Our room stewart was ok, he was very pleasant.  So was the rest of the stff.  The CD was Stephanie Mead, she was ok, but we have had other CD's much better.

The ship's decor was very pink and cheap looking, pink and silver circles everywhere mixed with black tile with neon green grout.  I found it hideous, I guess that I prefer the richness of the wood and more traditional styles.  It was very art deco-if you like that style this is the ship for you.

We found the common areas small and always crowded, especially on the formal nights with all of the photographers.  There was no Captain's cocktail party, just a meet and greet.  We did not attend the past guest party, as the room was not large enough to accomodate everyone.  We did get our Spendor pins.  There was a farewell coctail party we did not attend.

The ship stores were small and there was a lack of cashiers, on several occasions we had to search for someone to check us out.

The pool side movies were nice, but they started very late 10:45 -It would have been nice to have them start earlier since the movies shown were family movies, like race to witch mountain and hotel for dogs.  We were with our 7 and 9 year old grandkids, they had a difficult time staying awake through the movie that ended at 1:00 a.m.

The ships captain was wonderful, hurricane Patricia was in our path and we had one rough day at sea, he navigated us around the worst of it and we had wonderful weather in Puerta Vallerat, Mazatlan, and Cabo.

We will probably sail again on the Splendor in the future, I won't let the decor keep me away.....

I had a bad experience on the splendor last December that I said it was the worse ship i was ever on, well i tried splendor again in May I had the best time imaginable.  I truly think the attitude of the crew makes or breaks the ship.  But I never heard of no one wanting to take your money in the shops.  Also the past guest party is usually in the auditorium and they split it up into early and late no idea what you were talking about too small.

    Sage56:

WOW!, I guess if someone can find something to be unhappy about they will.  My experience on the Splendor was wonderful, and heck, I was even without water in my cabin for almost 6  hours.

There are little cards with the layout of the ship available all over the ship and at the front desk.  There are also deck plans available on line that would have helped with navigation.

While there may not have been drink stations near the grill, there were numerous portable drink stations set up in that center Lido deck area. And, if you need to take drinks to the room, they had travel glasses available, or you could have brought one.

The bow of the ship is not really accessible to just anyone. The area where the ship's bell is located is the crews area.  So, if you were thinking of doing the "Titanic I am king of the world" thingy, you did not have access to this part of the ship.

There are however, some areas near the front, such as under the bridge you can walk to.  It is just a matter of going through a closed door.

I am not sure which dining room you had, Black or Gold Pearl... but unless you made arrangements for group seating before the sailing, the layout is what it is.  Even the round tables are 8 to 10 per table.

Smoking areas,,,, well I didn't find a lack of them anywhere. And remember, unless  you were in a Spa cabin or suite you can smoke in your stateroom.  I would think that most the shows on the center Lido deck don't last that long, and because it can get crowded there, I wouldn't even smoke there if I was allowed to, just to be courteous.

I am not sure what changed in the coffee station arrangements from the time I sailed in Sept to the Oct sailing, but, I found more coffee and drink stations on this ship than I have on previous ships. Plus, I found the cups and glasses larger than those on other ships.

    Sage,

I just happened to see this Subject "Unhappy with Splendor" and of course going on this cruise next month it caught my attention and  I  had to read the posts.  You go girl!  That is the attitude.Big Smile.  It will be very hard for the cruise lines to design a ship custom made for each guest.
