    Don't sail on the Destiny

Along with many other posters on this forum, I was also on the Destiny during the week of Sept 7th.  I have cruised 9 times, and this was the WORST cruise I have ever been on.  I will never sail with Carnival again and I would never recommend them to anyone.  To start, my cabin was filthy!  There was heavy dust on all the shelves, rails and flat surfaces.  Dust bunnies hanging from the air vents, and some kind of sticky spatter on the walls. The room steward was never around.  There were paint flakes falling onto our balcony from above. In my sons cabing thier balcony door would not latch. It took 3 days to get someone to fix it! Every public restroom I went into was filthy and the floors were covered with trash. The food in the buffets was terrible, and it was the same every day. No variety.  The food in the dining room was OK, but our dining room waiter was incompetent and the assistant waiter was MIA every night. The waiter wrote down everyones order every night and still could not manage to serve the right dish to the correct person, or he just didn't serve you anything at all.  We usually had to bus our own dirty dishes, or they sat on the table.   Then on top of all this, the ship broke on the 2nd day out.  The vibration was so bad in the dining room I thought the tableware was going to shake off the tables.

I understand that some cruisers onboard felt the propulsion issue more than others. I know we have sailed on very rough seas and I had seasickness problems. It is a shame that you did not enjoy your cruise and issues that were not able to be resolved. We sail on the Destiny on 10/10 and I hope that some of those issues have been resolved. We are looking very forward to our B2B cruises. What cabin were you in as I am hoping that we are not booked in that area of the ship. We have always had wonderful cabin stewards and very clean cabins every time we cruised. So I know that our expectations will be high as they always are; hopefully Carnival will come through for us.

Please post how your trip was. We leave 12-14. I'm getting a little worried after reading all the post about the engine trouble. Hopefully by then everything will be fixed. As I said, please let us know.

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

Went on the Destiny on 10/01/09 to Key West & Cozumel. We had a Balcony on the Lido deck about mid-center. We had no problems what so ever. I rarely saw the steward, but the room was clean, didnt use the public restroom, Buffet was ok, and the seating dinners were good. The biggest party of the trip didnt start until 12:00PM. Sorry, but I was long gone before that party. Nobody ever wins at the Casino, Dont buy the "Drink coupons", we snuck our alcohol on in our suit case. You can carry a 1.5 ltr. of wine on if you have 2 people (Bring your own opener) Our neighbors on board were noisy and went to bed around 3:00am (Bring ear plugs). The Excursions are over priced, so we did our own thing. If you are going to the same destinations, I can be of some help. The boat shuck a little but not too noticeable. Have Fun, We Did!

OCMom.....You made me laugh. Now if only more people would experience what you "Claim" to have, then I would have the whole ship to myself. Sorry, but I kinda think your a bit 'unbelievable' with your complaints. Not sure any cruise could please you......

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

I just got back from my cruise on the Destiny on Oct. 5-10, and we had an awesome time and didn't experience these problems. Our wait staff was AWESOME, knew our names and preferences and everything (I am a vegetarian and the girl remembered that). Our cabin was also always very clean. The only things that kinda got to me, were that the bed was hard (which I understand is also personal preference), and that some of the events I wanted to do were scheduled at the same time so I had to pick.

Of course... we're already thinking about our next cruise, so we'll just have to do those events the next time :). Because it was that awesome.

I cruised on the Destiny on September 17th and had an AWESOME experience.  I did not experience anything that you experienced.  It was the BEST vacation I have EVER had and I am right now searcing to find my next Carnival Cruise.  I truly have NOTHING negative to say about Carnival and would encourage ANY and EVERYONE to sail Carnival.

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

My wife and I will be on the October 15 sailing of the Destiny. This will be our fifth cruise with Carnival and we fully expect to have a wonderful time.

Looking over these various threads in Cruise Talk, I always find it interesting how people on the same cruise can report such different experiences. To be sure, cabins are different, stewards are different, and the dining room staff are different: nonetheless, the shared experiences on the same cruise should at least balance these out. Comments regarding the cleanliness of the public spaces and the quality or variety of the food should all be based on the same observations.

In my experience, Carnival has always been very responsive to on-board concerns. Two years ago we had a cabin where some foul, oily smell was coming from the toilet. When we alerted the Purser we were moved within 60 minutes and this took place at 3:00am.

IMHO, the variety of experiences that people report on the same cruise may be better explained by the attitudes they brought on-board rather than the experience at sea.

    Cheers,

    DannyS

I TOTALLY agree with your comment Danny.  Sailing in a palace would NOT change the attitudes you bring on board with you.  Well said.

actually I have cruised 9 other times. So, it is not an issue of nothing pleases me.   This experience was so bad, it was unbelievable.   I am sorry you find substandard service funny.

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

    Dear OCMom,

I certainly didn't mean to trivialize your experience or make light of what disappointed you about your cruise and I apologize that I created that impression.

At the same time, other responses to your original post stand in clear contradiction to many of the things you describe. The take-away for you should be that despite how sincere you are about your disappointment, it was not a universal experience on the same cruise.

You are left with several options on how to reconcile this difference of opinon, and only one of these is that you're right and everyone else is wrong.

    Cheers,

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

we just got back off the ship, this was are first cruise. yes the ship did shake alittle the first night but after that no problem. the only thing i didnt like was the elevators were somewhat funky and didnt work the whey they should, but with all the great food and beer i had i needed to take the stairs anyway. i loved all the staff and everything on board. our room was always clean and neat. would sail her again no problem.

we also sailed on 10/1/09--the ship was shaking every time the ship was docking at port, this was our 3rd cruise and not the best on carnival ...but we still had a great time , i'll take a shaking ship over a full day at work anytime,,that ship needs a little TLC ,but it's not the end of the world,,,,i can feel what other people wrote about this ship,,but i still got treated like king,,on a scale of 1 to 10 a 7 and a half,, but not all carnival ship are like that,,,our other 2 ships was great,,,and if i had to cruise that ship again i will....so nobody get scared...the ship crew made up for the shaking ship, they were great...

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

we also just got back from the 10/10/09 trip to Jamaica/Cayman .we loved it!!!!   same here the 1st evening i felt a small shake like from propulsion?worst thing of the cruise was the" Muster drill"  it was hot !  everyone was crowded , you could not hear what was being said on PA. but 2nd cruise for me so i knew what was going on. besides the muster drill we loved the whole thing . the depression from being back home and not on the ship has already set in tho    lol

I just wish we could wake in the morning and go to the  breakfast buffet and start over.
