Help...not sure what shore excursions to book!

We are a family of 4 - we have a 10 and 8 yr old.  We would like to do a shore excursion in Progreso and in Cozumel.  Can anyone give suggestion on what excursions are the best and which to stay away from.  Thanks so much!

For Progreso you might want to use it as a learning experiance and go to Chitzen Itza or Uxmal.  For Cozumel, a taxi trip to Paradise Beach so they can play in the water.

Re: Help...not sure what shore excursions to book!

I have a 5 yr old and a 14 yr old.  I honestly wouldn't spend money on an excursion in Progresso. You can take the free pier shuttle to town and go to the market and Mayan musuem there. Free public beach, good restaraunts. There's only one beach resort outside of Progresso so ALL of the beach excursion (horseback riding, corono beach party, etc.) all end up at the same place and it is crowded and overpriced.  In Cozumel we take a $10 taxi ride to Chankanaab. It's a vey clean, budget and family friendly state ran park. Snorkeling, swimming lagoon, pool, dolphins, snuba, seatrek, wildlife, etc. To enter the park for a family of 4 was $30. Great food and margies on the beach with a little of everything for the family.  Even their snuba was fantastic and cheap ($60) - my eldest did that while the 5 year old and I swam.  We are headed back here with 10 family members aged 5-60 in November.

We took the excursion to Uxmal last November and will be going to see Chichen Itza this November.  The bus ride is a little long, but the facility itself is beyond imagination as for as historical value and the wow factor if you like that kind of stuff.  Not real sure if little kids would be too impressed though.
