Roll call Valor 11/22/09 - Transportation to the Port

Not sure if anyone is trying to figure out transportation from Fort Lauderdale or not but wanted you to know what I found.  So Hertz has a downtown Miami office, they will shuttle you to the port of Miami for free.  We are flying in from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, I rented a car from Fort Lauderdale for the night and will drive to Miami in the morning from our hotel there.   Originally was looking at $85 for the car... found a discount deal through Alaska and now only paying $39.. this is much cheaper than cab to my hotel and shuttle the next day and I am free to come and go as I wish.

Just thought I would share the info as I just saved $45 through this discount online coupon from Alaska Air Mileage Plan....I am flying in on Alaska so happy to be using this additional discount.

I still need to decide what to do when we get back to port as our flight doesn't leave until 6pm which gives me a few hours to burn in Miami area, can't check into airport until 4 hours before flight.  If anyone has any great ideals I am open to fun suggestions.

24 More Days until our Cruise :-).

Ok....we are doing cave tubing with Major Tom.  Now I have to figure out sting ray city....which tour to go with and then debate about the Mayan ruins in Cozumel.

Is anyone else worried about the gas prices going up and the possible extra charge for fuel on the ship??

Thinking about doing the private Tulum Tour with Cozumel tours.  We have 7 people in our group...they allow 8 so if anyone is single and wants to join us let me know....it is $150 for all 8 of us so that is less than $20 per person.  (Oh and fair warning my group is 2 adults, 3 boys 16 years old, an 8 year old and a 6 year old.) We just need to take the taxi over to ferry which should only be $6.

I Did find this one for stingray city, we booked it. I like it because it is a smaller boat and all the reviews loved the trip being small and personal.

Do you have the link for the Cozamel tour?

I had not thought about the gas prices is there a sur charge?

    Jolene ~

Fuel prices may be going up, but the cost per barrel is not.  Is it not stated that if the cost of the BARREL goes up they reserve the right to up the fuel surcharge?  Maybe I am missing something.

As for the links for Cozumel, these are the two I was looking at:

    http://www.cozumelwatersports.com/index.htm  and http://www.cozumel-tours.com/

we are still undecided what we are doing there.  Everything else is a GO.

We are doing a wave runner/snorkeling trip which includes swimming with the Sting Rays, you can't book through Carnival but it has great reviews, we booked through Ebanks: http://www.shop.ebankswatersports.com/product.sc;jsessionid=FCAE946907B740E2ACF2E6294979ABBF.qscstrfrnt04?productId=5&categoryId=2

Hey Sue.....the cost per barrel I believe is up to $77 but I called Carnival and they told me not to worry.

We were looking at the cozumel-tours.com for the private Tulum tour.  We have 7 in our party but we can book the 9-14 people for a total of $180...if you are interested let me know.

thats a good one to ponder, however remember this the nasal mist vaccine IS NOT a live virus, so it is not like you can get sick from it.

The flip side to this coin is that once you get the piggy flu, you dont need the vaccine.  I am one that does not get a flu shot each year,  for years I was forced to and I have not had one since Nov 1995.  I do not plan on getting the piggy vaccine either.

Re: Roll call Valor 11/22/09 - Transportation to the Port

I booked through Hertz.com, and used this code: CDP 321739  which is a mileage plan discount from Alaska Airlines, I saved over half of my original booking.  I chose the airport for FLL and the downtown Miami location for drop off, I called downtown and confirmed they will shuttle to the cruise terminal.

Good luck - I hope you get as good of a deal as I did!!
