New Watch...Gift Shop Onboard or Amazon.com

I would love to bring home a remembrance of my cruise and was wondering if I do as well onboard the Carnival Miracle as I would if I bought on Amazon.com?  I have 2 possible watches in mind and their prices are far different.  There is a Tag Heuer I've seen that is probably too pricey or a Tissot Sports watch that is much more sensibly priced.  I'd like it as an every day watch and a remembrance of my vacation/anniversary.  Our anniversary is the day of departure.  Of course I will be buying my wife something nice as well.  I always do !!!  Wink

Wherever you go, be sure you know comparable pricing.  If you can do better at amazon.com, then go there.  If you find something on the ship you must have and the price is fair, then buy it.  There is no sales tax on the ship and items purchased are duty free subject to Customs limits.

We rarely buy jewelry on the ship, but on our last cruise I bought two gorgeous rings.  I know we paid on the high side for them (even tho they were on sale), but they are beautiful and unique - we have not found anything like them anywhere else.  And we are used to paying wholesale prices!

Re: New Watch...Gift Shop Onboard or Amazon.com

We have purchased a couple of pieces of jewelry on a ship.  My husband bought me a beautiful tanzanite and diamond ring and I did not think the price was unfair.  I have also priced a watch my husband bought for me at Kohls and it was quite a bit cheaper on the ship.  I did find it cheaper at one of the shops at the pier in Montego Bay.

Well, I did my homework and know the prices locally so I am going into this thing educated.  I just hope the ship's prices are comparable because my wife and I always like the idea of returning with something that we bought on vacation.  It's a nice feeling when we look back at vacations we've had together when we wear something bought at that time.  Smile

You can't do any better than that! The only rub is, they may not have the exact model on the ship that you found on land. I bought a Citizen watch on my last cruise after having seen it on a previous one but not knowing the movement number or anything of the sort. I ended up paying for some data roaming on my phone to look it up. In the end, Carnival's price was about $15 lower than the best land price for a similar model, plus I didn't have to pay tax or shipping.

By the way I never did find this exact watch even looking on the Citizen site. They and everyone else seemed to be presenting an older model based on what I know about their watch movement numbering.

I figured that I would check out what they have onboard and hopefully it will be close to what I saw on land and the internet. I'd rather get it from Carnival than an unknown internet dealer anyway.  Smile
