Transportation from Port at Long Beach to the LAX

    HI everyone,

we'll be on the Mexican Riviera Cruise in Feb 2010. Our flight home afterward is scheduled to leave around 11:30am from LAX. Does that seem like enough time for us to get to LAX after leaving the ship? Does anyone know what time the ship gets into port? We'll most likely do the self dis-embark and carry our own luggage. I'm just worried that we're not leaving ourselves enough time to catch our flight. Also, which seems the best mode of transportation; taxi or shuttle?

    Thanks so much!

    Mary

    Hello Mary:

The ship should get in around 7 or 8 AM. If you tell them , when you  get on that you have a flight early. You will be in the first group to get off ship. I have heard that a taxi is around $17 to airport. Carnival has a shuttle about $26 each, but must be booked before hand.

Hi Glenn, thanks for the info! We're struggling with changing to a later flight as it will get us home very late. However...it may be worth it not to be a nervous wreck about getting to the airport on time! thanks for the info!~

CCL states 9:00 AM docking for Feb. Our flight leaves at 2:00 PM, we could have flown out a little earlier but we don't like to rush around. We just don't like the stress involved. You may be ok with the early flight as long as there is no delays.

Carnival doesn't suggest a flight earlier then 12:30 if you are taking their shuttle.  I also read a taxi is more like $50 to 60 dollars from ship to LAX.  I think I would see if you can change it...you don't want to ruin your vacation with stress trying to get to the airport and checked in.  We are doing 2pm flights...hopefully you can get something a little later....

it's "fun" to try to figure out when to book the flights.  You don't want the stress of worrying if you are going to miss your flight and on the other hand sitting around an airport for hours on end isn't too fun either.  Last cruise we had four hours in Orlando airport to kill.  NOT FUN but at least we made our flight, even though my genius hubby tried to get a pocketknife through security.   That took about an hour off our wait time.

ps. don't try it! they will find it!

Hello, yep, I think our next choice of flights was 2ish. I'm fine with changing the flight home....just have to convince everyone else in my party! I'd rather hang out at the airport then be going crazy if we're stuck in traffic on the way to the airport. Keeping my fingers crossed I can convince everyone else to switch. Plus, since we'd be getting home much later, it's a great excuse to take an extra day off from work!!  =)

Here's the skinny.......the ship gets back early early and  I was told if I am to self-disembark I could do so at 715am!!!  I got off the ship about 745am and took Prime Time Shuttle ($16 one way) to LAX. I had a reservation for Prime Time at 830am but they let you take any one available whenever you want. I was at LAX , checked in and through security by 910am...........easy as pie. Prime Time Shuttle picks up at the bottom level of the parking garage.

$16 per person each way......very much worth the cost since you can get one as soon as you get off the ship and don't have to wait for the Carnival bus load...you may have to wait a few minutes cause the Van holds 9 and they usually like to have 7 or 8 in the van before they leave....it fills up quickly though.
