Chowder_17:
So, I keep seeing on various posts about tendering at the various ports during the cruise and you need to get a ticket/number to get off the boat. Could someone please explain this to me? What if you book a shore excursion through a third party? Thanks!
Tendering means, a port is too shallow for a Conquest Class, Spirit Class, Destiny Class, or Splendor Class Fun Ship to dock at a pier due to their tremendous weight placing them LOW in the water, so the ship anchors a half mile or so from shore. I can't speak for the other classes of Fun Ships, but these classes I'm sure use tenders at some ports of call. A tender is a small boat holding around 100 or so guests (sometimes they use the lifeboats as tenders) that ferries guests from the Fun Ship to shore and then back to the ship later in the day.
We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!
I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.
Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

We went on two Norwegian Cruise Line Tramp Steamer Cruises - Thank goodness we were too busy on our honeymoon in 1978 to realize how crummy the cruise actually was - Then they ruined our 2007 Hawaii Cruise that was my retirement gift from my wife - Two chances is enough! - Never again!
Our current future dream cruise is 15 days back-to-back on the Freedom / 8-day Eastern (Fort Lauderdale) and the Valor / 7-day Western (Port of Miami) with a 45 minute private shuttle ride in between the two Fun Ships.
