I have to respectfully disagree with your statement that Carnival did not care.
Our son is 18 and has Autism and has been cruising with Carnival since he was in Elementary school.
Next week will be his 32nd Carnival cruise. And the ONLY way we could have done that is because of the excellent care he has gotten from the Carnival staff over the years.
We have cruised on all but 4 of Carnival ships during every time of the year from short 2 day cruises to 8 day cruises .... and each and every time...he had a blast.
Now having said that....Autism is new to the cruising scene. "Special Needs" in the past meant oxygen, wheelchairs, scooters and diabetics and mainly dealt with adults.
We have filled out that special needs form on every cruise and you do not get a response from Carnival. The "request" is simply handled. Now having said that....your expectations must be reasonable as well.
You do not state the age of the person.
For children: One on one care is not an option. And care for any child that is aggressive to other children is not an option. Other than that....just about everything else is managable. They have pagers available so that you can always be reached if you are needed.
For adults: Our son is now 18 and has "aged out" of the Camp Carnival program. There are no specific oversight options for him. However, other accommodations have been honored like a table for just the 4 of us, special handling during the muster drill...etc.
If you give us some more information about the age of the individual....we can give you more of an idea what to expect.
