We should boycott Freeport and go the Half Moon Cay instead

For all the cruises I have been on, several of them going to the Bahamas, it seems that almost all stop in Freeport.  I have yet to figure this out as this is not the most beautiful or exciting island.  I quite enjoy just being able to walk off the ship and just go where I want.  You can't so that here, so there for immediately you are forced to spend money to go anywhere, unless you just go to the small market right at the dock.

Half Moon Cay is such a marvelous island, yet they only offer this stop on limited cruises.  Thinking we should boycott Freeport and demand more Half Moon Cay.  After all, they make all of the money we spend on that island so it should be a win for all of us.  Any one else agree?

Have never been to Freeport (going in Dec) but Half Moon Cay is my favorite port of all times.

I doubt it, but maybe if we call in a bomb scare in Freeport that morning? (just kidding before anyone comes to arrest me)

I think this would work in the summer, as long as HAL is in Alaska, but it would be a little crowded when they return.  It's a great thought though, maybe CCL will hear you.

Is there anything that you do recommend that we try to do here?  We are on the fascination cruise (Aug 27th) and this is our 1st stop?

If it was me and my first time, I'd take the tour of the Island, which ends up by the beach, casino and shopping area.  Then you can take one of the busses back when you are ready.  This is what we did the first time, the drivers usually give a real good discription of the area.   We've never done any of the boat trips, so I can't say.

Re: We should boycott Freeport and go the Half Moon Cay instead

Seems that more of the HAL cruises stop at the private island, maybe they need to work on a rotation that they send more of the HALs to Freeport and more of the CCLs to Half Moon Cay.  Maybe I just haven't found the right thing to do in Freeport but we have been there a number of times and it just isn't as good as the private islands are.

I think the reason that more HAL ships go there is because it was originally developed by HAL before CCL bought them.

Probably so but HAL has much better itineries to offer even without the private island.  I also noticed that no one HAL cruise in the months of April or May stops in Freeport.  I understand that HAL is the uppercrust line of Carnival much like Celebrity is of Royal Caribbean and the cruises cost more and they cater more to them, BUT there are more Carnival ships and in general a younger crowd that will spend more money drinking and on shore excursions on their island.

Oh well, nothing we can do about it but book another cruise that includes it.

I've cruised both HAL and CCL,  HAL is not just old uppercrust people.   I've seen them party hardy on both lines.  One thing about HAL is the food is a little more ethnic, but really good.   Lots of lox, Dutch dishes, etc.

Re: We should boycott Freeport and go the Half Moon Cay instead

I've also sailed both along with NCL, RCCL, Celebrity and Disney...they all have different mixes of people.  Carnival and HAL are no different except I find they are bit more uppercrust on HAL, I never said old, as they are willing to pay more for better food and the upgraded service that those lines offer.  That does not mean, however, to get back to the point of the thread, that we should not be offered the same stops...there is no reason why some of the HAL ships can't sail in to Freeport and Carnival into Half Moon Cay.  It doesn't matter who owned the island first, it is the corporation that owns it now and the corporation owns both lines and should split the time equally among the island.
