Im a vet @ this thing. Dont know why she said that. U have security just like in Vegas. U can get a belt cord for ur S&S card ( thats ur money & room key, dont lose), when u leave it leaves with u. MAKE SURE U GET A BELT CORD. Also, the longer u play & use ur card u get points towards prizes.

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

My very first cruise EVER was solo. That was still the best one I have had as far as not having to worry about picking up a kid from camp carnival or hurrying to meet up with friends to do something. I was the most relaxed I have ever been on a vacation. I made friends at my dining room table that I still write to and that was almost 6 years ago. I have made friends here on these threads that were going on my last cruise, we met 2 months before (online) and continued to write up until the cruise. My son and I had a blast with them. There are so many ways to meet people on cruises and I have not met a bad person yet. Just pop on over and say Hi to the Monkeyheads. Of which, I am one! Best of luck on your cruise.

I ony WISH I was cruising alone.....my sister is coming with...and hasn't even gotten her air flight yet...(the prices keep going UP)...I have always loved to travel alone....can get up when I want....drink when I want....socialize...and stay out as late as I want.....gosh, it's good to be old sometimes...LOLOL.....on a more somber note....I feel for you and your husband....I was widowed at 22.....and as much as I wanted the world to just stop..it didn't...it took me a while but I realized..I couldn't either...made me TOTALLY understand the phrase....the world keeps turning...best of luck to you

I have cruised solo many times.  It is a great way to travel.  You will start meeting people as soon as you get in line to check-in.  By the way, that's the worst line you will ever be in.  Carnival tries to assign you your diner table with other singles.  I never feel unconfortable going to a show or other attaction by myself.

By the time you finish the cruise you won't be able to go anyplace on the ship and not see someone that you have not already met and can start up a conversation.

I will be taking my eigth cruise in November.

Try a four day cruise first and see what you think.

I just booked my first solo cruise.  This will be my third time cruising but first alone.  I'm excited.  I'm a little nervous but I am sure I will still have fun.

I am thinking of crusing solo myself.  I am hoping to go in December to celebrate my birthday.  Because my birthday so so close to Christmas, most of my friends don't want to travel.

Has anyone ever had any luch finding people that will be sailing  on the same cruse before setting sail?  I'm hoping to do that, at least that way I will have at least one person to start out with.

Reese Cup,  you will be just fine,  my first Solo Cruise was to Alaska.  The ship HAL

People will know you are Solo,  They just come up to you and start a conversation, which I also have a hard time with.  I had some good table mates, it was suppose to be a table for six but only a couple showed up and another older single lady, that had some  wonderful stories about her trips Solo.  I did not hang with any one , Always fentured out on my own.  But you will see the same people everyday.

I loved the fact I was in a cabin by myself, If I wanted to so something or not it was my choice.  I did eat alone for breakfast and most of the times for lunch, HAL gave a wonderful meet and greet luncheon,

I've also cruise with other people two time before,  It feels so much better in a cabin all by myself.   Have a great experience, it's all what you make it.  You didn't say were you are sailing to.

So, is that the only port?  If possible do some research of the ports and make plans for at least one excursion if it's in the budget,  going solo is great , however it can be expensive paying the  single suppliment .

Hello all.  Thank you so for the info and experience of going solo.  I feel better and more confident about going now.  I will be on the carnival DREAM August 21 2010 out of cape canaveral.  Anyone else on that one?

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

I just returned from a 5 day cruise on the Destiny and I went solo.  I'm married with Kiddos and a family so I wasn't on a man hunt or anything of this nature.

I had NO awkward moments on board.  I will admit I was a little anxious about the dining situation but Carnival did a great job of putting me at a table with 5 other single ladies and two single men.  I enjoyed their conversation each night and looked forward to hearing about thier excursions when we met up for dinner each night.

I REALLY enjoyed not having to consider someone else's wishes when I picked my shore excursions or when I wanted to slip back to the cabin and take a nap.

If you aren't shy and are comfortable being by yourself in a normal setting; you will be FINE.

I loved IT.  I'll do it again next year when I need another break.

I've got to hand it to you all, i could never cruise solo. I am scared enough to go in a group right now because everyones in couples or thier kids and they dont want to hang around me. I have anxiety bigtimeTongue Tied so i think its great that you all go solo. Im sure when i go i wont be lonely but if i ever knew someone was alone id invite them to sit with us if they wanted to or hangout.

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

    Sugga Rose,

Look up on this site under your ship name for a roll call of your cruise date or if there isn't one, start one. Last year, I did a roll call and I met 9 other people that to this day we still write to each other from here locally to out of state. In fact, one couple has decided to book the same cruise I am taking next March.

I loved what loulou wrote on this thread, I had the same exact experience traveling solo. I do look forward to the time I can do that again. But then again, as long as I can cruise, I don't care if I am by myself or with a group!!!

You'll start meeting people in the check-in line.  Don't worry about it.  Generally  they try to put singles at the same dining tables and that's always nice because you start talking about the excursions you are going to go on.  You will find people there that have the same interests as you.  I am a a single cruiser and love it.  Don't worry, go with a positive attiutude.
