What's it like to cruise solo?

I'm thinking of booking a cruise all by myself in the near future and just wanted some feedback from people who've done it before?

Do you feel lonely or isolated?  How did you go about meeting people on the ship?

     Thanks!

It's really all up to you. If you want to meet and greet people, it can be a blast!

If you want time to be alone, you can have that also.

There are many things to do to meet others, Singles Meet and Greets can be a little weird, hang out and look for the flow of things, all in all people are willing to chat you up and who knows what can happen!!!

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A COCKTAIL FOR ME!!!

I'm wondering the same thing.  I'm booked for a cruise that leaves 8/31 out of Tampa and I was supposed to go with my boyfriend...well we broke up earlier this week (after 3 years living together) and I'm contemplating still going on the trip by myself.  I'm worried though that it will be incredibly lonely.

I generally cruise solo at least once or twice a year and I actually find it less lonely than being at home....because the people on board are generally open and friendly and eager to meet others.

Ask for a big table at dinner and you'll be seated with others who are traveling alone which is a very easy way to meet people to hang out with.

Bartenders and other crew members are great to talk to - they definitely understand about being a bit lonely since almost all of them have left friends and family back home....and they are really great company when they aren't too busy.

And if you book shore excursions through the ship - again, you'll get to meet people who you already have something in common with.

You definitely won't be lonely - and you'll only be alone if you choose to be.

I cruise alone all the time and I love it. There is so many fun and wonderful people on the ship that you will in no way feel alone. I can do what I want without having to worrie about what the other person want's to do. I don't have to be worried about someone keeping me up at night or wakeing me up to early in the morning. I am just free to do what ever I want. It's so much fun meeting everyone on the ship. I'm sure you will have any problem. Big Smile

I enjoy cruising solo... I like the fact that on each Carnival cruise where I have sailed solo, they have placed me at a table with other solo cruisers..  I always meet people and have made many friends...  I like the fact as others have said that I can do what I want, when I want..... If I wake at 4:00 am and want coffee.... I don't have to worry about waking anyone.... If I want to stay in my cabin..... rarely!! and chill.. I don't have to let anyone know my whereabouts.......   Also, being a widow, I fell that a cruise is the best getaway there is!!!!

Thank you for your post, I am not a widow yet but my husband of 16 years is terminally ill.  I have planned a cruise for the Dream and wanted to go with someone, they are all up in the air.  I have never been one to depend on people and decided that this may be better going alone.  I have another friend that is interested but I will need this cruise to mourn and to gather strength to go on without my true love. I am looking forward to being alone more and more, although sharing finaces would help.

Right now I am happily married and taking care of him.  I planned my last cruise and the one I just cancelled as something to look forward to, something positive.  This new cruise planning allows me the same and when I sail it will symbolize the goal of staying hopeful through it all and finally letting myself move on.  Thanks more than you know.>>Believer

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

Hello there Believer... First of all I would like to let you know that you and your husband are in my thoughts... Im a solo cruiser, and although it would be nice to go with someone you know let it be a spouse or good friends, I think going solo you would have a ball... I did my first 2 cruises solo, and I think Carnival had done a great job sitting you with other solo cruisers. When you are on the cruise its all about having fun and if you are alone, and you are a social person, you will have no problems finding something to do.... I reccomend it to anyone.

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

I just booked my first solo cruise today. I have a lot of stress right now and just wanted a quick getaway. The price for a 1A on a 4 day cruise was great and airfare was pretty cheap so I just went for it. I have also never booked a cruise this close to leaving !17 days). I am excited to just do whatever I feel like.

You are going to enjoy yourself any way it goes dkoenig. Just think you will have plenty of time to mingle, having noone hold you back from doing what you want to do it, when you want to do it.. And Im not sure if you every had a Cat 1A room before, but they are really nice.

I don't know what your friend meant about the safety around the casino.  You have nothing to worry about.  You are probably safer on board a ship than on your own street.

Hi Sue, The casino is safe, Not sure why your friend would say it wasn't safe. The whole ship is safe unless your one of those people who like to sit up on the rails on the ship. I think the only thing unsafe about the Casino is spending all your money LOL They have security, not to mention Pit Boss's. You get on that ship, go anywhere you want on it and have yourself a Fun Time Smile

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

honey in my opinion ( u know what they say bout that). It is the best way to travel, u can meet different people, do what u want, nobody to say " i wanna do this, I wanna do that" and u dont wanna do any of it. Never take sand to the beach. BUT..... I have gone with friends  & thats no good either UNLESS..... they are like u and know how to have fun which is what vacation and Carnival is ALL about.
