I personally dont think i'd try to visit playa del carmen from either progreso or cozumel.  it's much to far to try to fit into such a short window of time. there are so many options right there in cozumel that i'd not risk running late and missing the boat.  Progreso is a wonderful but short day in port as well.  Enjoy just being there and experiencing something different.  Do Playa del Carmen from Cancun sometime.  Playa del Carmen is my favorite place in that entire area but you need much more time there than a few hours.

    Re: Nachi-Cocom Beach

Nachi-Cocom Beach is really a beautiful place to spend a nice relaxing day. I was there last November.  We did the all-inclusive food/drinks.  The food was perfect, served right on the beach and the service was awesome.  he was always ready to bring us another drink and we tried so many different "girlie" drinks while we were there.  There are a few hammocks in the shade, message stand up in the shade by the hammocks.  The beach is a long, sandy one so there is no snorkeling.  just beautiful clear water.  there are boats offering para-sailing right there on the beach.  I dont think it could be more of a perfect beach day.....except....that we are snorkelers and my kids are now hooked on scuba diving so we picked Playa Uvas for our trip that we took last week.  It was just as good as Nachi as far as food and drinks but its not nearly as pretty of a beach since it is a coral beach.  but the snorkeling and diving was great and i would highly recommend it as well.  just a different experience. no parasailing or jet skis on that beach because of it being a protected national park with the reef being right there.  hope i have helped you some.  neither one would be my top pick for someone with small kids.  there are other places that have more to offer for kids.

Playa Del Carmen is not an option from Progreso. However in Cozumel you can get the ferry to Playa Del Carmen and enjoy the day there. Keep in mind that the ferry ride takes 30 t0 40 minutes each way and can get very rough if the weather is the least bad. Many people get sea sick on the ride over or back. Just make sure you leave plenty of time returning to catch the ship, they will not wait for you.

From Progreso, it would take you about 3 to 4 hours to get to Playa del Carmen.  From Cozumel, it is a ferry ride across.  What some people will do is spend the night on the mainland and then take the ferry to catch up to the ship the next day.   If you are taking the ferry, keep in mind that they shut down for lunch.
