Best way to see the Gatun Locks and Panama Canal ?

We are cruising Aug 1-9 on Carnival Freedom with family and would like to see the Gatun Locks.  We had heard that the Panama Canal Tour excursion takes you through the canal, but you don't really get to see the locks in action.  The Grand Tour and Portabelo & Gatun Locks excursions go to the locks, but not through the canal.

Does anyone have any feedback on which experience is best, etc etc?  I can't seem to figure out what we should do for the best view and best overall exprience.  Thanks for any help!!

The best way is to cruise through the canal from one end to the other. My wife and I went two years ago on a Carnival reposition cruise. We went from Port Canaveral to Aruba to Costa Rico to Acapulco to Mazatlin to Cabo San Lucas and finally San Diago. Going through the canal is amazing, going up and down in the locks plus the passage from one end to the pther is a once in a lifetime experience. Plus the other stops that are added on was great. When I look for cruises, I look for special ones on e-bay and other travel sights.

Enjoy your cruise you wont regret seeing the canal.

Wife and I did the train from sea to sea. They stop at Miraflores lock for sightseeing and picture op but it depends on timing whether or not you'll see anything going through the locks. The bus trip return may give you a chance to see lock activity. This excursion we found to be worth every penny. Tour Guide Roxanne is a real hoot and knows her stuff, if you get her you'll have a great time. Have a great time on your cruise. Let us know how you made out.
