You can't go wrong with either!   I had been to all the other ruins, many times over the last 20 years.  I had put off Uxmal until last year........was totally blown away... the only other ruins that compare are Chitchen Itza!   So I say enjoy!!!!!   You won't be disappointed!!!!!  If you are into ruins, you're going to have a blast!

Also remember Chitchen Itza will take up the entire time you are off the boat.  Take a lot of bottled water.....it was hot!

Thanks for the info Harold.  Did you go to Chitchen Itza in Nov. before.  I was wondering how hot it would be.  I have good mobility, but do tire easily.  Do you know how fast paced the tour is.  I am taking the one offered by Carnival excursions.  Almost time!!!  Yeah!!

Yes, I have been in November and there was more wind, but it was still a little hot.  Chitchen Itza is a lot busier with a lot of people, very big open spaces, but still plenty of shade.  I went to Uxmal last November and the climate was perfect....lots of wind, shade and had a true "in the jungle" type of feel.  There was not a lot of people at Uxmal.  We did a ton a walking on both tours,,,Chitchen Itza was a faster pace because we had limited time there.   If you have never been to Chitchen Itza, it is definitely something you must see.   Maybe the next time Uxmal.   Don't make it last on your list, because it is truly beautiful.  I had no idea it would be so nice.  We also had time to go shopping afterward in Progresso before getting back on the boat.  This is my 7th time out of New Orleans, new boat though, so I'm excited all over again.   Taking my son and a friend with me this time and taking them to Uxmal.  I love going in November, it takes the sting out of the heat.  Blonde hair and blue eyes, fair skinned person here, lol.  Hopefully I'll be burnt orange at the end of the trip, lol.

    See you there!

Thank you so very much.  Your info is very helpful.  I plan to take sun screen, as I am very fair as well. I am 63 and  I am traveling with my grand daughter (21) and her fiancee(23)  I expect that they will look out for me,( I hope they won't leave me behind somewhere lol)  but I am not one that likes to go unprepared.  Here's to burnt orange!!  Thanks again...See you on board. Are you taking the excursion through Carnival or with autoprogreso?  Also, how long does it take to get to Uxmal from the pier?

I thought the food was well above average.  You'll see people at the fruit bar on the boat, loading their beach bags with oranges, apples, and snacks, even guava juice, the morning we get to the island.  Take more bottled water than you anticipate, and you can't go wrong.  Sometimes the locals are around the entrance selling souveniers, if you're lucky they will be there.  Take advantage of their low prices!  You'll have a blast!

I was going to say technically you can't take fruits and veggies off the ship but the right word is legally.  They don't want our pests invading their agriculture.  No problem with pre-packaged foods.

One cruise we were getting off and they have a sign right as you exit that states no fruits or vegetables off the ship.  There was a bin there with assorted apples, oranges and such that security had taken from those who had already exited the ship.  The guy in front of us - seeing the fruit in the bin but not the sign - grabs a banana and proceeds through the check point.  As he's bee booping through - banana in hand - the security guy reaches out and yanks it out of his hand. Points to the sign and throws it in back in the bin.  I don't think anything would happen to you if you got caught - but why risk it. Plus as I said - you wouldn't want people bringing little critters into the US that would damage our crops. This is why you can't bring those beautiful plants and flowers you purchase in port off the ship with you when you return to the US (at least you're not suppose to - again it just depends on how they are taken off and who is or isn't paying attention).

So while it sounds like a great idea to supplement your hunger from the buffet it is best to just take packaged items off - like boxes of cereal or items you have brought from home.  We always have beef jerky or beef sticks in the back pack.  And yes you do need lots of water.

    Hope 2 Sea U Onboard - Cheryl

Yes, Cheryl is correct.  I felt odd about it, and only took some juice in my water bottle.  But don't think for a second you won't see people doing this.  You see a lot of this on the Alaska cruises because oranges were like gold off the boat.  Bringing back fruit/vegetable from Mexico onto the boat would be more of a concern, lol.  Cheryl is also correct on the cross contamination issue, technically.   This celebrates my 42nd trip to Cozumel.......and I'm still excited!  No pager, no laptop, no patients, no stress!!!!Whoooohooooooo!

Great food, good people, and oh yeah, Mexican beer (at least one)

Harold, I agree, Cheryl is right.  No fruits or veggies can be taken off the ship. legally that is...lol.  I follow the rules, but not everyone does.  42 trips to Cozumel and still excited..WOW!!!  That is some kind of record I'm sure.    I went last year and I can't wait to get back there. Paradise

We're planning on doing the snorkel and beach party also.  I don't know if we're booking it on the boat though, last time we had a group and we booked it on the pier and it was really cheap, but we were at the same place with the same people we cruised with and that was nice.
