How did the open dining work for the formal night? Was it the same as any other day seating wise?

From what I've read on this site, formal night works the same way.

As for choosing your dining time, if you like to have consistancy (time and table mates) choose early or late dining. If you like to wing it and just eat when you're hungry, try the your time dining.

Personally, I'm so looking forward to meeting other cruisers, so have a set dining time on our cruise...I also figure our teens will automatically know when and where to meet us each night.

Anyway, the food will be amazing whatever you choose, and that's the main thing...

We are doing the late seating! Theres a bunch of us and like the other poster said we know if we don't see each other all day at least we have a set time at dinner to spend together! We also want to have the same dinning staff every night. i think its part of going on a cruise! Thanks for answering my question!

That is one of my favorite things about Carnival cruises and a set dining time... the ability to get to know your waitstaff.  When we were on the Inspiration in November I was checking out the dinner menu one afternoon and our waiter Adrianne saw me.  I mentioned to him that one of Bill's favorites, escargot, was on the menu that night and how funny it would be if before ordering Bill received an order of escargot.   Guess what?   He did.  Yep... can't beat the crew/staff on Carnival!  Yes

Thats Awesome. That is what we are looking foward to! I've cruised before my husband has not. I think hes going to love when we get there and the waiter already know what hes drinking. I know i was amazed on my first cruise how they remembered so much about you!  Ahhh 53 days we are sooo Excited.

That's why I stick with assigned dining.  I like the special attention and getting to know them as well.

Cool [H] Re: Your Choice Dining. Any feedback?

I've done the late sitting twice and the early once.  I prefer the late seating. Yes I'm slow to get going after a long day in port.  I want to have a drink to relax then take time to dress.  I too am hooked to having the same waitstaff.  On all of our cruises we had so much fun with the head waiter and their asst.  It's so nice that after telling them once that I am allergic to cheese, they stop me if I order something with cheese or have it made without the cheese.  It was also nice that before we asked for a second lobster, they had it on our table.  From day one they told jokes, last cruise there was two tables of friends and family, and the staff helped us play hide the butter, Devil after the other table stole all our bread the night before. Angry  Some friends of ours just came back and they didn't like the free style dinning and after the second night changed to late seating.

I usually book the late dinner and this time I picked open seating.  This post has made me change my mind and I will pick late dinner again.  Not that this open seating is bad but you really got me thinking about what I need.  That is why I love this board.  Thanks for the help.>>Believer
