    Room Location

I just called carnival because i saw a huge drop in prices from when I booked my cruise and the woman offered me a different room.  Is it really that much of an upgrade to move from riviera deck to empress deck?  can somebody please tell me the differences?

    Re: Room Location

we were on the riviers deck, and we liked it becaause we could get to anywhere on the ship unencumberd..it was just a stright walk down the hall and then a ride up in the elevator, in my wanderings though all the "room" decks seemed pretty similar.

    Re: Room Location

Upgrades are based on catagory and catagory determines the location of the room on the ship. Like catagory rooms are the same throughout the ship and has nothing to do with the floor assignment. I hope this provide you some clairity. The move from Riviera Deck to Empress deck is a move of three floors upwards only. The question here is whether your catagory actually changed or not.

    Confused [*-)] Re: Room Location

The higher up you are on the ship the closer you are to the action.  If you walk the stairs (quicker, usually than the elevators) you don't have as many to walk.  We were on the Elation and on the Empress deck I think, and it was great.  But you want to be careful and not get a cabin to close to busy areas, (elevators, crew entrances, steward closets, ect.).

    Re: Room Location

I wouldn't consider it much of an upgrade unless they were moving me from an inside to an oceanview or from an oceanview to a balcony, etc.  Moving up a deck doesn't mean anything to me.  It depends on whether you want to be closer to the "action" or if you want a quiet deck.  I like things quiet when I'm trying to sleep.  Action by my cabin does not sound like a good deal to me. An onboard credit sounds like a better deal.

How is M18 on the Holiday? Room was 600 for 2 (300 a piece).

    Re: Room Location

I can't speak for the room personally, but the location depends on how susceptible you are to motion sickness.  Being in the forward part of the ship, you will feel more motion.

You have rooms directly above and below you and the public rooms and elevators are quite a distance from you, so I suspect people noise won't be much of a problem unless you have bad neighbors. Beware, though.  I think you're rooming next to a cabin with uppers and lowers rather than conventional beds.  This type of cabin may attract a different kind of cruiser.  Anchor noise, on the other hand, may be a problem.  You might take a look at your itinerary when you log in on Carnival's website and see if you're due to dock or tender at any particular port.  If the ship has to drop anchor anywhere, it could get a little noisy, depending on exactly where the anchors are.  If you can handle both of those issues, you're probably in good shape.

    Re: Room Location

Re-looking at the rooms I guess my preference would be in the M20's. Is it possible to move at this point?

Anchor noise seems like a real non-issue for us, kind of interested in hearing the ship pull into port and dock. Navy broke me of motion sickness years ago :), so I guess that neighbor noise would be it, and we shouldn't be in the room much.

     Thanks for the comments.

What exactly do you mean by "main floor"???  If you mean the main deck, that's NOT that great!  It's usually one of the lowest decks on the ship, just above Riviera!  So, don't laugh your ao too much!

There is no noise issues on Empress deck. it is sandwiched between two floors of nothing but rooms. Also, if the upgrade offered took you from a forward or aft cabin to a midship cabin, it IS an upgrade. Rooms cost more on Empress deck compared to Riviera deck because they are premium rooms. Riviera is at the bottom of the boat and are the cheapest cabins.

    Re: Room Location

On this particular ship, all of the cabins are on the lower decks, except the suites, and only the main deck has public room space on the same deck with the cabins.  I don't see what the big whoop is about being on a higher deck, unless you have a balcony room.

I my case, I like a cabin on a lower deck, mid-ships, because it cuts the excessive movement.  I'm not so lucky to be able to avoid the motion sickness.

You're in the minority without a doubt.

Out of curiosity, then...what does the higher deck do for you?
