    Re: Wine!

Okay, now I have a question on this subject. Do people actually carry the wine with them on the ship other than maybe the formal dinners? I have freinds who have cruised who brought alcohol with them. They said they got the soda card and would get cokes and go to the room to make a mixed drink and then go back to the deck. I just kind of assumed that any wine or alcohol would be used in the room unless it was brought to dinner and subject to the corking fee. Do you see people sitting around the pool with bottles of wine?

    PoP,

Who cares what others think. Just because we have our cork preference doesn't mean we will think you are a cheapo with a screw top. There are many people that like the wine from a box.

Agreed! Who cares.  I bring my wine in a box and dare anyone to look at me crazy when I'm "pouring" myself a glass.  To Hades with them!  I drink what I want.  If you let people dictate what you eat and drink, you'll have a miserable vacation.  <<<getting down off my soap box now>>>Angry

    Re: Wine!

I'm not sure how it works with the wine. But if you can bring a box why mess with a little ole bottle. I'm not a big connoisseur of wine, actually more of a Miller Lite type guy, sometimes I will get a bottle of crown royal and some 7-up, and I love the Wild Turkey that is mixed with a honey liqueur - that is some good stuff over ice - it's called Wild Turkey American Honey http://www.novusvinum.com/spirits/americanhoney.html

I may dedicate one bag or suitcase to spirits. A box of wine may just about fill one up. I also found where you may be able to buy a bar setup for your room. Not sure what all in entails but here is a link to a thread where someone asked about it and Stepanie - with Carnival - posted telling the guy to call the Bon Voyage department. I called the number but they are closed on weekends. http://www.carnivalconnections.com/cruisetalk/forums/p/31981/74687.aspx#74687

I didn't realize the date of the posts when I first looked at so they may not do it anymore. I wonder if the Conquest has mini fridges in the rooms.

The Tigahs are looking great. They scored 9, 9, and 14 runs in their three games. It will be a fun at work next week. It's a lot of fun living in Houston being an LSU fan. There are more Texas fans at the office than LSU. Should be a good series.

I did a long post about wine, alcohol, and the Tigahs that went to moderation. The last time that happened it took over a day to post.

So if Carnival does sell bar setups you could take your alcohol with you and not have to run back to your room everytime you wanted a drink?

    Re: Wine!

Oh, I do have another question for people who have cruised before. I noticed that the price list for drinks on "seauonboard" and another link I saw somewhere that they have banana daquiris at the bar. What do they serve these in?

In Louisiana they have a drive through daquiri place that has a banana daquiri they call "Monkey Shine". This is my all time favorite drink. We get our own brown spiced rum to doctor them up. They serve them in styrofoam cups(glasses) and even on a hot day in Louisiana they will last for a couple or few hours.

Not sure what a 'bar setup' is. If you bring wine or buy a bottle on board you can carry it and drink it where ever you want. I am not sure if you buy a bottle of liquor from Bon Voyage prior to your cruise you would want to carry the bottle with you. Maybe take a smaller plastic container.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of carrying it in a pool bag or something similar. I really don't know if I would want to carry it around with me and if I did buy a bottle from Carnival I would probably leave it in the room. I'm just kind of surprised that you could carry it around with you even if you DID buy it from Carnival. I'm going to try to not drink too much on the ship. Some people have told me that you locked up on the ship and for some reason it makes them want to drink more than the normally would. So I won't really know until I get onboard. A Hangover can ruin a whole day.

    Re: Wine!

For those wanting to try wine, bevmo dot com has their buy one get one for 5 cent sale. this is a great way to try wines you normally wouldn't touch due to the price. You really need to give a brand a couple bottles to determine if they are good or not. We purchased 2 bottles of a kenwood yesterday that were very heavy wines. Great for steak etc.. but maybe not for casual drinking without eating. Will try it later tonight.

We use those large water-sipper bottles with the flexible straws. One we fill with alcohol, the other with wash.Works quite well. That way if you are up by the pool,if it does fall over it won't spill.(that would be alcohol abuse)

    Re: Wine!

Carnival doesnt  encourage guests to bring alcohol.  Officially the  policy is each adult over 21 may bring one bottle of wine onboard.

People do "smuggle on" alcohol.  You can purchase 'virgin' drinks and spike them with your smuggled booze.  But  as you arent supposed to have it with you,  you arent really purchasing a set up.
