    Wine!

My cousin and I are briging 1 bottle of wine each for our cruise in 3 days. Do I have to bring the kind with a cork in it? My cousin bought something with a screw on cap (I know kind of cheap but hey it gets the job done). As far as the bottle being in my checked luggage on the plane, do you think a corked bottle is better? Thanks

    Re: Wine!

Either type will be fine. By the way a lot of wines are now using screw caps and some of them are not cheap. Don't forget to pack a corkscrew with your bottle in checked luggage.

    Re: Wine!

I had a bottle of wine and fruit and cheese basket delivered to our room for my sister's B.D. They did not provide a Cork screw for it. We did ask for one and it was provided free of charge. It has a Carnival Ship on the top. She packed it up and brought it home. We now use it for our Wine girl's night out. We all get together and bring differnt Wine's from around the world and just enjoy!!!

    Re: Wine!

In the past our group has "sponsored" tequila tasting parties (i don't drink it anymore) where the bottles have ranged upward to 200 dollars. No one is doing shooters that's for sure.

We have been throwing around the idea of our own wine tasting party and comparing the different regions. The one I would like to try, but won't buy for myself, is the ice wine that was on another thread. That will be the one thrown into the hat for a joint purchase.

    Re: Wine!

I have a question about wine as well.  I am cruising with my little brother who is not 21.  Can I take his bottle?  As in, even though he is not drinking, can I bring two bottles on board because we have two passengers or is it only one bottle per passenger aged 21 or older?

    Re: Wine!

Legally, he is not allowed to drink. So, pack your bottles in your checked baggage, one bottle per bag. Use a WineSkin for each bottle (your local wineshop or liquor store should have these - they are bubble wrap in the shape of a bottle and have 2 separate seals. I've never known them to fail). Or you could try carrying on one bottle and packing the other(s).

My husband and I bring our own wine when we travel, partly due to his allergies and partly due to the fact that our cellar is large and we've been collecting for decades. We usually apportion out the bottles, one to each of our party. Some of our guests don't drink wine so that works out. On HAL, we had a suite and the 2 of us checked in using the preferred line. I carried on six bottles in specifically designed wine luggage and it went right through the detectors and they didn't bat an eye. We drank them all, too!

Of course, you do run the risk of the extra bottles being confiscated but from the pix I've seen posted on this site, I'm amazed that people don't have their personal stashes confiscated more often. I've seen people bring cases of beer with large boxes of wine and big jugs of whiskey and liquor in, all at the same time - one guy posted a pic that looked like he needed a separate dolly just for the booze he brought on board!

Well, best of luck to you and I hope you have a wonderful time.

I'm debating on bringing a couple of bottles myself.I also really enjoy a chard from S.Africa but was hesitant because it has a screw top and as vain as it seems didn't want to be looked as a Cheapo because of the cap.

    Wine!

    PoP,

Who cares what others think. Just because we have our cork preference doesn't mean we will think you are a cheapo with a screw top. There are many people that like the wine from a box.

    Re: Wine!

Nope.  Has to be wine.  No liquor...at least not the traditional kind.  I just bought something yesterday called "Nuvo". It's in a wine bottle, looks like wine, but it is made with vodka and exotic berries.  It is pretty potent!!  http://sparklingnuvo.com/index2.html

Anyway, to answer your question.  No, only wine.

Agreed! Who cares.  I bring my wine in a box and dare anyone to look at me crazy when I'm "pouring" myself a glass.  To Hades with them!  I drink what I want.  If you let people dictate what you eat and drink, you'll have a miserable vacation.  <<<getting down off my soap box now>>>Angry

The only time I say something is when someone says they don't like wine and I will ask them what they drink.

Agreed! We like a wonderful red for our "everyday" wine - great with heartier dishes like spaghetti. It has a screw cap and is named Big House Red because the vineyard is next to a prison (functioning or non-functioning - not sure). It's widely available here in Las Vegas and I think in California. Well, DUH (slapping head hard), it's made there.

I've served it for wine and cheese parties and eveyone loves it so don't be afraid of bringing what you like. People who really love wine are always looking for good wines at bargain prices so they can drink more of it!!
