Not tipping the crew over a little pin that just lays in a basket on my dresser is wrong.  The crew works hard and depends on that tip money.  If I can't afford to tip I'll stay at home.  Complain to Carnival, don't take it out on the crew.  If Carnival paid the crew what it's worth none of us could afford to cruise.  It's just like eating out at home.  When I was a kid in school I worked as a waitress.  I know how hard they work to earn their money.  Lighten up, it's a pin for goodness sake, it's not a life changing event.

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

I must have missed something somewhere.  I get these pins and they really are no big deal.  My wife and I never took them seriously and definitely not seriously enough to take drastic inappropriate action.  I can honestly say I haven't the faintest idea where any of them are today.

I have to say, when we come to the point where a person can be charged with a hate crime because of something they say or type, no matter how obnoxious or insensitive, it's a sad day in the good ol' USA and, unfortunately, we are at that point.  Now if I physically assault someone because of their orientation, race, religion, etc., that's a hate crime.  I guess I took what my mother said about sticks and stones to heart.  Words can't hurt me unless I let them. Have the poster banned?  By all means.  Block and remove the posts? Yes.  Charge them with a crime?  I hope not.  That practice could spiral out of control in a hurry.  Maybe my skins a little thicker.

Whatever you do, though, don't call me an aging, semi-bald, somewhat chubby man.  I find it very offensive and I might just cry.  (I doubt it, but it could happen.)

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

Im sorry, you might be mad but first of all, "cabin boy" seems very rude.

Second of all, it has been said that they are trying to discontinue the pins. I think they are not ordering anymore. So, once they are gone, they are gone. This is something Carnival was giving as a small thank you. No where in writing does it say when you book a cruise as PG, they are required to give you a pin.

Third, I am shocked you are so mad about a pin. I will leave it at that.

Fourth, Why in the world would you cancel all tips? I should leave this at that but I cant. Since you are a PG, I would say that you MUST have noticed how hard these men and women work to please you.

You took money away from them. And since you did take the tips away, they will be asked what did they do wrong. When in fact, the cabin stweards and dining hosts did nothing wrong. All because Carnival is doing away with an extra?

Really Sir? This post has left me TOTALLY confused.

For future reference to all reading this, Carnival provides comment cards and pleads with cruisers to fill them out. If loosing a pin upsets you, that is a matter that shoudl go on the comment card.

OK, so now I will go back and read the pages of replies. I was so upset when I read this post I had to reply right away.

OK so now I feel stupid,

After reading all posts, I see this is a person who stirs up trouble under different names.... well, crap.... He got me

    Thank goodness for forgiveness.

Thank goodness we have men and women (yeah DH!) fighting for our right to speak and right to publish.

Anyway, in the past when I have come across someone on the boards who is a "troll", I ignore them. Attention is what they desire. A true need to stir the pot per say.

Its truely sad though since MOST people come here to share and be informed.

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

We just got our two pg pins on the Ecstasy but I did hear on cc that once these pins are gone, there will be no more.  I did recently write guest relations to get a couple of past guest pins on the Sensation for one of the fellows here on cc but was told they had no more.  So if that is the only way they cut back on expenses, we won't sail less.  We did  notice they no longer serve hors deurves (sp?) at the captain's party and past guest party, also no more prime rib on the second cruise elegant night.  I certainly wouldn't take out my anger on the cabin steward who has nothing to do with whether or not we receive pins.  He is just trying to make a living and spends months away from his or her family, probably from a third world country.  They basically live off these tips and have to share them with their assistants.

I have heard of these pins before but we have never gotten one.  We've been on 6 cruises and the pins are not the reason we keep coming back!  The crew takes awesome care of everybody ~ I can't believe you didn't tip.

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

We just got from the Splendor & we did get our pins. It's nice to have a collection, but COME ON! These waiters and cabin stewards are like slaves to us. They deserve more than we could ever tip them!! Only a JERK would cancel their hard earned money!! He must have been the same type of person that had the NERVE to tell my mom (from behind our balcony divider) to put out her cigarette- that there was no smoking allowed on the balcony! What a joke. He later apologized to her by phone. (I'm sure the pursers desk let him know you can smoke however much you want on YOUR balcony) Isn't that why we pay more?Wink

But we did notice quite a few cutbacks....apple juice only in the morning, no fruit punch, no hors dourves at Captain's night party (they did have them fro Past Guest Party, but no meatballs-my son's favorite along w/ the chicken nuggets that they didn't have either). All in all, it was fun. Being Platinum Guests, we obviously will always return, but it just kind disappointing when things change and not for the better. We noticed that a lot of the entrees didn't taste so great as awlways in the past. Usually the Filet Mignon is mouthwatering and it was blah this time. Anyone else notice or was it just the chef on the Splendor right now? ( Not complaining, just saying)

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

Well, the pins are a fave of mine.  Not that I wear them, but every time I see them at home, they remind me of my wonderful cruises.  So, I will miss them.  As far as cutting tips, no way.  Those people are working so hard & are so nice to us.  It's not right to make them suffer because of a decision made by corporate.

What the hell. Just got back from cruise, cabin boy says Carnival not giving out past guest pins? 12 cruises and they cutback on pins. Was really pissed, went to guest services and canceled all tips, guess I will do some cut backs too!!! I feel better now.

Why did you cancelled all the tips? It is NOT their fault that they are not giving past guest pins anymore. You should NOT cruise. This is the MOST stupid thing I've ever heard.

You could have bought a pin in the ship's store. Your stupidity is something out of this world! I am glad you feel better.. cause I do feel better too after I told you how I feel about you.

And you said it so well!   LOL   I love the little pins, but if I never got another one, oh well, my life and CRUISING would continue.   Cancelling tips over a pin... that person is, well... I won't go there!  Wink

Re: Mad as Hell, NO MORE PAST GUEST PINS

I didn't get a pin on the Spirit a few weeks back and I still gave the gang their extra tips on top of the ones put on sign and sail.

The drinks were as good as ever, and maybe even stronger at the past guest party and the Captains Party. There were hor d'ouerves at the past guest party, plus the comedian magician put on a special 20 minute show. That was pretty cool!

For those who can't live without them, the do crop up on eBay now and then. The best part about being a past guest is getting a good discount when your age or home state don't qualify you for one.
