    Re: Stuck at Sea

We just got off the Legend this morning (rather reluctantly I might add), and yes we did go to Roatan, we docked at the pier, and it was BY FAR the best port of the cruise.

Rumor has it in Roatan that the President of Carnival had a "heart-to-heart" discussion with the President of Honduras over the future of their cruise ship visits to the island, and the President of Honduras got busy quickly making sure everything was safe and secure on the island and would remain so.

We had a fantastic beach day at Tabyana Beach, and enjoyed shopping in the blocks around the pier. All the locals were very friendly, security was obvious but not intrusive, and we felt very safe.

I MUCH preferred Roatan to Belize or Grand Cayman, and all the other cruises we spoke to  were very glad we docked there!

    carmelinam23@aol.com:

Has anyone looked at the itineary changes. No one is at sea anymore. We were the only ship that got left at sea. All the Other legend ships for future date has received another port. Also lots still have roatan as a port.

This is sickening that we were left at sea!

You have to cruise with the knowledge that, on cruises, everything is subject to change.

We booked the Legend cruise, excited about going to Cozumel again, not caring if we ever went to Grand Cayman again, and looking forward to going to Belize and Roatan for the first time.

What we got was a) Grand Cayman was worse then last time because it was way overcrowded....but we did get to see 4 Carnival ships all together in the water there...Inspiration, Valor, Legend, and one that began with a D, which was an impressive site, but if we had a fun day at sea instead of Grand Cayman, we wouldn't have lost any sleep over it. Most of the other people we talked to on board weren't impressed with Grand Cayman either, though the people who did the stingray excursion were all over happy with it.

    b) of course we missed Cozumel, which was a big disappointment to us, but we knew that before we left, and enjoyed our day at sea. Hung out at the back "adults only" bar and pool and talked and laughed with many new friends.

    c) Belize was next, and we did the Altum Ha and Belize City tour excursion. We learned our lesson, if we ever go to Belize again, do an off-shore excursion. Belize City was very dirty and depressing, and the locals were not friendly...plus we got ripped off at one of the restaurants inside the tourist zone.  Menu said $6.00 for two tacos, which my husand and I ordered two tacos each, which should have been $12.00 total. When we got the bill, it was for $20.00...apparently there is a $2.00 charge for the filling in each taco that isn't mentioned on the menu.  I guess the $6.00 was just for the taco shell....but that was typical of how we were treated in Belize...."Give us your money and leave"....they definitely don't have the hang of being a tourist vacation spot yet.  The other cruisers who went to the private islands, or off-shore fishing, or water excursions reported having a much better time.

    d) Roatan, which we knew nothing about, turned out to be the best port of all....equal to or better then Cozumel. The locals were very friendly, informative, and everything was fairly priced. The island was clean and beautiful, and we were made to feel very welcome there.

So I guess the point to all this is...that just because you do get a port, doesn't mean it's going to be the highlight of your vacation, and in many cases, a day on ship is way better then a day at a port!

You don't dock in Belize because of the protected coral reef.  The ship drops anchor 5 miles outside of Belize.

    Re: Stuck at Sea

As far as the rest of the 5/10 Legend cruise, it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

We LOVED the Golden Fleece Supper Club, food was great, service even better.

My husband surprised me with a visit to the salon to have my hair colored and "done" before the Supper Club. I was a little wary of that because I had read so many complaints on the forum about the salon and spa, but I went anyway and couldn't have been more pleased. It was the exact same price as having it done here in Orlando, and Dominca from England did a wonderful job and I had her undivided attention. The view of the ocean was perfect from my salon chair, and I was very pleased with the whole experience and the results.  No one tried to sell me anything and the staff were pleasant and helpful.

The food and service in the Truffles dining room was as good as expected, the shows were good, the comedians especially good, and the photographers were excellent!  We lost money in the casinos as usual, but had a great time anyway. We loved the Unicorn adults-only bar and pool/hottub at the back of the ship, and really enjoyed the decor on the Legend. Also Billie's piano bar was a hit, and the Rodeo Drive shopping was a pleasure.

     So my final score:

    Legend  & Crew 100%

    Grand Cayman  20%

     Belize  10%

Roatan  95%  (wish we could have stayed longer)

You are an idiot. They can't control those events, but they can control how they treat their guests and what they do to make up for cancelling half your vacation.

     Hey Bridezilla,

Back off!!! If you had bothered to read the contract, you are only paying for a certain number of days aboard the ship. They will feed you and provide you a cabin for that time. They do not guarantee the itinerary because of unforeseen circumstances. That $20 OBC for a cancelled port is the money that Carnival pays that port for bring the people there.

That is all you are paying for! If you call their customer service people idiots that is how they are going to treat you.

Grow up! Read the contract before you agree to anything! The world does not revolve around you no matter what your parents told you!

    Frank,

If you would read you would of seen this was NOT a unforseen item.    The Carnival Curise Line knew 1 week before the Legand left, and decided to do nothing.    The Carnival cruise line did divert 3 other ships, namley the Valor, Liberty and the one other ship from the port of Rotan.     If they diverted those other ships, the could of done the same with the Legand. So it was NOT unforseen.     The port in Mexico was told to all passangers weeks before, so no one was mad that it was cancled.    It was they way they handled it.   It was just poorley done.

As for the contract, since it was not an Unforseen act, as they knew about it for weeks before hand.   So a certin compensation sould be given.     We did spend a lot of money for the cruise, and a lot on board!      For the amount of money they make it would not be hard.

I know Carnival people like you don't care, but some of us expected a little more for our money that we spent.     If they told us in the beginning that this port MIGHT be cancled, a lot of the discussion would not be happining.

Remember, Carnival is in business for Customer Service.    If they did wrong, witch to some people they have, they sould make it up to us.

I did like the Carnival Legand, and all of the people onboard that handled this tough time with Dignaty and even better service then I was expecting.     I would cruise on Carnival again, but to other ports of call that hey have.

If the crew of the Carnival Legand reads this, I just have one thing to same to them...

NICE JOB, WELL DONE, and THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Stuck at Sea

    Port Cancellation Policy

If Carnival Cruise Lines ("Carnival") has adequate notice prior to sailing that a vessel will deviate from the published itinerary, it will promptly -- upon making the itinerary change -- notify guests of the change through their travel agents or directly, in the case of a direct booking ("the Notice"). The Notice shall offer guests an opportunity to cancel their booking without penalty within 24 hours of the delivery of the Notice. Carnival shall not be liable to guests for any charges, fees or expenses paid or owed to third parties (such as air travel booked by a guest directly with an airline) in connection with a cancelled booking or substituted port. In the event a guest does not cancel his or her cruise on a timely basis, no additional compensation for the itinerary change will be offered to the guest at a later time.

In the event the itinerary change becomes necessary while the ship is at sea or when notice prior to sailing is not feasible, Carnival shall attempt to substitute an alternative port. Carnival shall promptly provide written notice of the itinerary change to the guests as well as announcing the change in the Carnival Capers and via the public address system. No compensation shall be provided to guests when an alternative port is offered.

If safety, scheduling or other concerns prevent the ship from calling on an alternative port, Carnival shall promptly provide written notice of the elimination of the scheduled port to the guests as well as announcing the change in the Carnival Capers and via the public address system. The written notice shall also offer a shipboard credit of $20.00 (U.S.D.) per person to be reflected on the sail and sign account.

Nothing herein shall affect the guest's ability to exercise the Vacation Guarantee on sailings where it applies.

    Re: Stuck at Sea

Now what part of the Carnival Cancellation Policy says "unforeseen"?

As far as I can seen Carnival followed their published policy.

And no, I do not work for Carnival.

And yes, I do read a contract before I sign it.

    Re: Stuck at Sea

Just returned from the May 17 sailing of the Carnival Legend.  We did NOT stop in Cozumel, even though the CDC had lifted its Mexico travel advisory several days before we sailed. We had a "Fun Day at Sea" instead.  We DID stop in Roatan and Grand Cayman.

I talked with several locals in Roatan about the "labor dispute" that caused the cancellation of Carnival's port call there a couple of weeks ago.  They said it was really bad,  "like a war zone".  It seems that Carnival made the right decision cancelling the Roatan stop at that time.
