    statue of liberty?

We are sailing out of NY in Aug for a Canada trip. My question is, does the ship go past the Statue of Liberty?

I believe you should be able to see Lady Liberty leaving and returning. I can't see why you would not! (weather conditions and other changes apply!  Lightning

Yes, it will be just like your ancestors did.  On the way back, it will be early in the morning, so make sure you see it on the way out!

our ship leaves at 5pm. How long does it take to get past Lady Liberty? I really want to see it and take pics of it. We have early dinner. When we left out of Tampa in March, my goal was to be on deck when we went under the sunshine skyway bridge and it to 2 hrs to go that far and I was late for dinner!

I can't answer for certain, but the Statue of Liberty is about 6 miles from the passenger docks as you exit the bay.  The trip, will take you past most of Manhattan. I would imagine that the ship will be going really slow, and so my educated guess would be about 1 hour, because the ship will have to back out, and get into position to move on its own.  It is a crowed area and it would be only moving about 10 mph at most I would think.

If you have the time, I would really recommend you going to the Statue, and Ellis Island as a side trip.

If you want to actually go visit the Statue of Liberty I would reccomend going on an excursion with a group planned well ahead of time. If you just go on your own it will take a VERY long time to actually get there (waiting in line, not travel time) from what I was told by someone who attempted it on their own Enjoy!

If you are facing the Bow of the ship it would be Starboard

when I left out of NY  since I had an aft balcony,  it was to my left...  still starboard I know.... but  was my left not right

yes, it will be on your right as you face the bow.  best place is the back of the boat at one of the little tables with an umbrella drink.  You'll feel the boat list to the right as you get near (just kidding - nothing moves those babies but the engines).

Yes it has to, you go down the Hudson past the east river and into the Atlantic
