    VA_Cruiser:

Carnival ships are not smokeless  I think Catherine is having a Dream.  no offense

And she said it started Jan 1 of this year... I sailed in Feb of this year... and people were smoking onboard.

LOL, so true VA. If Carnival ever stopped letting smokers on there ships, think about how many Cruisers they would loose. It would be just about empty. You can still smoke on the ships because I just call them to find out, because I was going to cancle my cruise if they had stopped letting smokers smoke. The Lady laughed and said, no way, You can smoke on the ships. This is stright from the lip's of Carnival Fun Ships. I do respect the space of non smokers and smokers. I only where I see others smoking or find a spot where there are no people and it works just fine Wink

You are totally wrong on your response.  They have added Non-Smoking Spa Stateroooms BUT only Spa Staterooms are affected by this change.  You will find that under FAQ's.

Carnival's smoking policy was revised slightly for the newer Spa Staterooms.  Other than that, their smoking policy is the same.

I bring as many packs as I think I need.  The Duty Free Shop does not carry all brands.  When their supply runs out they are out.  If you are going to buy them onboard get them right away if they carry the brand you smoke.  They did run out towards the end of our 2nd cruise and the selection was very limited.  Customs limit the amount of cartons allowed off the ship.

The following is an exerpt from Carnival's Ticket Contract, Section 8, paragraph (b).  This would indicate to me that the entire ship in not non-smoking, only certain sections of it.

    (b) Guest acknowledges that Carnival’s vessels contain non-smoking sections. Guest agrees to refrain from smoking in those sections and agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark the Guest for failure to observe Carnival’s non-smoking policy.

You can smoke in your cabin and other designated areas of all Carnival ships.

ok, that kind of bugs me now, I don't mind people smoking in the designated areas, but the cabins? I have never been on a cruise so sorry if this sounds like dumb question but is my cabin going to smell like cigarette smoke?  Please tell me it won't? Should have I asked for a non-smoking cabin? I know when I stay in a hotel I always ask for non-smoking and can't stand being in a room someone has smoked.

I do not smoke and I do not like the smell of smoke in my cabin... And so far I have never had a problem they do a very good job of getting the smell out of the cabins.  If you happen to walk into the cabin and can smell smoke all you would have to do is tell your cabin steward and he would take care of the problem.

As of right now the only cabins that are nonsmoking are the spa cabins on the splendor and when the Dream comes out the spa cabins on that ship are non smoking

    FinsDallas:

They don't limit the amount you bring.  My husband and I brought a carton each - but we wouldn't have done that had we known that in the duty free shop we could get two cartons for $44!  We're in Texas, where the tax on cigarettes is outrageous, and that was cheaper than the price of one carton here.  They are limited in what Marlboro brands they carry, (no menthol) but they had Lights, light 100's and Ultra Lights.  They did have menthols in Kool, Virginia Slims, Benson/Hedges and Newport.  Unlike the alcohol you purchase, you don't have to leave the smokes until the end of the cruise.

FinsDallas - I live in Texas as well and know all about the cigarette tax here.  Thankfully, I live close enough that I can drive over to Oklahoma and buy mine and save a little money.  I've read in previous posts that you can buy cartons for $22 and can only bring back one carton per adult.  Is this true?  If so, I'm screwed, its just me and my two kids going.  How many cartons can you bring back off the ship?  What if you open the carton on the ship and smoked a pack or two or three on your trip.  Could you buy another carton on the ship to bring back home?  Do they sell just cartons or can you buy packs?  Also, I'm curious as to what you mean by, "unlike the alcohol you purchase, you don't have to leave the smokes until the end of the cruise."  This is my first cruise, so I'm clueless on a lot of things.  Thats why I'm asking lots of questions.  Thanks so much for your help.

They do have specials and like someone said they bought 2 cartons for $44.00.  A darn good deal too if they carry your brand.  You will be surprised at some of the prices in that Duty Free Shop.  I bought our son over a $200 bottle of Cognac for $89.  He sure was happy....Wink

     cruzingal,

the carnival policy on smoking is that you are allowed to smoke in cabins... now they do not put ashtrays in the cabins so that might keep people from smoking and not asking for one.   and I know there are some cabin stewards that seem to tell guest they are not allowed to smoke in cabins... but as of right now the only cabins smoke free are on the splendor. and they are only the spa cabins

    cruzingal:

On our recent sailing of the Holiday, no smoking was allowed in the cabins.  Only in the designated areas.

Cruzingal, you must have been on a different Holiday.  That's the ship I just got off of on Monday and smoking was allowed in the cabins.  Well, what I can say for sure is the steward brought my wife an ashtray.  There were no signs, written or verbal statements, or indication of any kind this was not allowed.

Re: cigarettes- can you bring them on board and how many pks??

I have to say my DW was nice enough to smoke on the balcony for the most part.  She would take the ashtray with her so she wouldn't flip the ashes or throw the cigarette overboard when she was finished.  That practice is just unsafe on a ship.

Which makes me wonder if making cruise ships non-smoking might actually make them more prone to fires.  Smokers are going to smoke even if they have to sneak it.  Asking a smoker not to smoke for a three to four hour flight is one thing, but don't smoke for days?  That's a different animal alltogether.  Trust me, I know.  Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did.

They actually did make a ship non-smoking once.  I don't remember the name of the ship, but I believe it was a Carnival ship, and was a brand new one at the time.  Surely some one out there remembers which one.  It didn't work!  I believe they said something about their revenue being down because non-smokers didn't gamble as much! LOL Imagine that?
