    Re: Acapulco Information

I am sailing to Acapulco at the end of January.  I have heard many great things about La Perla.  I would love to eat there but Carnival does not offer that excursion.  The Carnival excursion goes to Linda Vista.  Is it fairly simple to get to La Perla on your own?  I have never been to Acapulco so I'm not familiar with the layout of the City.

Thank you for your assistance.  I'm looking forward to seeing the beautiful City of Acapulco.

La Perla Restaurant is the best place, IMO, to watch the cliff divers show. The evening menu has fish, meat, pork and pastas. The meal is average at best, would recommend watching the show, order drinks and have dinner somewhere else.

I can recommend a place or 2, just let me know you interests (upscaled, ocean view, Mexican, Italian, etc, etc, etc,) so I can recommend a place.

The Cliff Divers is located 10 minutes by cab; they are available every where you will go during your entire stay.

I am sure what ever you decide to do, you will have  a great time; we have so many interesting places for sightseeing, spending a day at the any of our golden beaches, activities galore and warm sun shine year round.

We'll be in Acapulco in early March on a Carnival Cruise.  We're reviewing the excursions offered and wondered what time is the best to see the cliff divers, during the day or evening?  Thanks for your reply.

    Re: Acapulco Information

IMO, the last show in the evening, 10:30 pm is the most spectacular one; they jump with lit torches in the dark, impressive to say the least. Remember, Acapulco is hot and humid during the day, you have 2 options for wathcing the show. From the lower observation platform run by the divers union and charge $3.50 USD (many steep steps to get to the bottom area) or La Perla Restaurant, they charge 16 USD during the day show, includes a Mexican buffet and the evening show has a minimum consumption feeof 250 Pesos per person (about 23USD)

Very difficult to take evening pictures unless you are camera savy.

The day show however is great for taking any picture.

The show times for the general public are 1pm, then 07:30, 08:30, 09:30 and 10:30 pm.

Ship arranged tours have a locla tour operator book private shows for their excursions.

    Re: Acapulco Information

Thanks Port Dude for your response.  We'll definitely consider the late evening show...although I was hoping to take pictures!  We were planning to book the excursions through Carnival, but someone on another thread mentioned how great "Rosie" was as a tour guide.  I tried to find the reference to find out more about her tours, but couldn't. Do you happen to know if she has a website to book from?  Would you recommend booking prior to our arrival, or are there lots of tour operators on the pier to choose from when we arrive?   We're interested in a general tour of the city and surrounding area.  Is it really hot and humid in early March?

I personally do not recomend her due to issues I prefer to keep to myself to avoid any confrontation with her or her business associates. Ask around other forums for reviews and contact info.

There are many tour guides available upon arrival at the port, including a 4 hour tour of Acapulco for $25 per person. Just make sure the guide is fluent in English, has a federal tourism permit and insurance, all of the port approved drivers are required to comply in order to work at the Ground Transportation  Services canopy.

And yes, it will is pretty hot and humid year round, average 89°F 75 to 85% humidity

    Re: Acapulco Information

    Hi and congrats,

Regarding an authentic Mexican meal, there are 3 places that come to mind

La Granja, located close to the the airport (40 minutes away from the port)  they have an awesome menu, that includes exotic dishes such as alligator, ants, ostrich, deer. The more traditional dishes are very good and the place looks like an old Hacienda. Expect to pay 25USd each way on a cab and about 50 USD for the meal

EL Cabrito, located next to the HArd Rock Cafe, (15 to 20 minutes away) this place has won International awards for their dishes, the decore is very typical of the region and well known for it''s goat dish, hand made tortillas, chips and all of the traditional dishes your heart will desire. Expect to pay 9 Usd for a cab and about 60 to 70 USD for the meal

El Zorrito or los Metates, located next to Galerias Diana Mall (10 to 15 minutes away) these 2 restaurants are side to side, a great menu of Mexican dishes including a meat lovers dish served in a lava rock dish known as molcajete, very good and enough for 2 persons. You will also find all of the traditional dishes at much more affordable prices, expect to pay about 30 to 40 USD. The only problem is that the waiters don't speak a very understandable English.

I strongly recommend that you ask the waiter for suggestions and try the "aguas frescas", refreshing drinks to accompany the meal, ( personally love Horchata, rice based drink) At el Cabrito, we enjoy a pitcher of watermelon.

Hope you enjoy your stay and congratulations again.
