    Where to stay in Jacksonville?

We are cruising out of Jacksonville in January & I have been researching room accomodations there.  I have narrowed it down to two of them. Either the Clarion Airport or the Microtel Airport (which is apprx 6 mos old).  Has anyone stayed at either of these and if so, have any comments.  Any help would be appreciated!

There is a Holiday Inn Express real close to the dock maybe 5 minutes.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
    JACKSONVILLE - BLOUNT ISLAND

    10148 NEW BERLIN ROAD
    JACKSONVILLE, FL 32226 UNITED STATES

Hotel Front Desk: 1-904-6963333 | Hotel Fax: 1-904-6965700

The Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Northeast Jacksonville sits elegantly among the hibiscus near the picturesque St. Johns River. It is the only hotel closest to the Jaxport Carnival Cruise Ship Terminal and has become a symbol of all that cruise ship vacationers and travelers hold dear-courtesy, quality, and sincere hospitality.

Just off SR 9A and Heckscher Drive allows easy access to downtown Jacksonville and is only 8 miles from the Jacksonville Internat'l Airport; 4 miles from the Jacksonville Zoo; 9 miles from the Shands Hospital; 15 miles from the Mayo Clinic; 11 miles from the beautiful Jacksonville Beaches or catch the waves just 4 miles east at Huguenot Memorial Park with beaches still available to vehicular traffic and jetty fishing. Come visit the Jacksonville Jaguars! Regularly scheduled games run from August to December at the jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Or catch the Jacksonville Barracudas hockey team or our own Jacksonville Suns baseball team in the downtown Sports Arena.

Enjoy your comfortable accomodations plus Complimentary Express Start Breakfast, meeting room, outdoor heated pool/whirlpool,excercise room, business center & guest laundry. In each room: voice mail, FREE high speed internet; hairdryer, coffeemaker, iron w/board, full mirror & 27" TV.

    lwolfson- have you stayed there?

    Hello

We are actually cruising out of Miami in a few months but thinking about stopping in Jacksonville.  Have you stayed at this hotel and did you like it/ was it in a decent area/ neighborhood?

Any recommendations on beaches to visit or things to do while in Jacksonville?

    Thanks!

We have not stayed there because we live in Jacksonville about 15 minutes from the pier.  The hotel is nice but secluded as it is less then 5 minutes from the dock.  It is is in a safe area.  If you have a car the beaches are within 20-30 minute drive as is downtown Jacksonville.  I would suggest the beach.   If you are just going to come for a visit on your drive back from Miami, I would not stay their, unless cruising.  It would be best to go somewhere by the beaches.  There are a number of hotels in that area, just google Jacksonville Beach hotels.

Re: Where to stay in Jacksonville?

I live in Jacksonville and drove out by the dock a few days ago and saw this hotel (9A & Hecksher).  It is brand new and would be a great place to stay if you are cruising out of Jax.  If you are just stopping by overnight on the way to destinations further south there are many more hotels closer to downtown or the beach.  Have a great visit to Jacksonville.

We, too, are staying at the Microtel.  It has free airport transfer and shuttle rountrip to and back from the terminal is $18.  Or, they have free parking for the cruise, up to 5 days.  We're paying $94 after taxes for one night.  It also has the "light side" of a continental breakfast...danish, muffins, coffee, juice, milk.  They also have wi-fi throughout.  http://www.microteljacksonvilleairport.com/

    steph2009,

Your post may not be of much help to Susie Q as she sailed in January of 2009.   There are many other options including one that is 5 minutes from the terminal.

My boyfriend and I are staying at the Best Western at the Jacksonville Airport...I have no idea what the area is like. I have seen a few diff pics of the hotel...and it seems...like yer standard/typical. It cost us 99 dollars, and that includes 5 days parking and shuttle to and from the cruise terminal. If anyone has any feedback on this hotel, it would be much appreciated! :) Thanks!

The airport area is fine and there are several options for dining within walking distance. Enjoy your cruise !
