Thank you much, Dampshoe! Grandson (age 11) and I will be there with many bells on.  Any input on shore excursions?  I think we are opting for the ship excursions in Katakalon, Istanbul, and Naples due to the time constraints.  Otherwise, we'll be adventurous and hope for the best.

IF this is the roll call, then we are sounding in. We too are traveling with an (almost) 11 year old. We will be doing our own shore excursions. with 2 11 year olds, I'm sure we will find each other on the boat.

You are so right, Pod.  And it will most likely be by the water slide.  Think it will be warm enough to swim? (He would do so in a blizzard, if allowed).  Also, on the shore excursions, would you be taking public transportation into the sightseeing areas?  I could use some advice! I hear taxis are bad for cheating, especially in Athens.

    Big SmileHi!

We are signing in for the roll call for Freedom 10/25! We are flying into Rome from Atlanta, GA. This will be our 29th cruise, but the first in Europe! We are curious if anyone is going to try a shore excursion on their own in Livorno - specifically to see Pisa & Florence with time for shopping? The ship's excursion for these 2 sights don't allow any time for shopping in Florence and we are trying to fit it all in! Many people have said navigating the trains in Italy is easy, but we just don't know if it can be done. Any like-minded people out there? We have heard the taxis are awful and they are a total rip-off.

Smile Hello Carnival Freedom 10/25/2008 sailers.  We (my husband, myself and our 12 yr old daughter) are sailing on Freedom along with you

We actually live in Italy due to my husbands job with the United States Air Force.. We have decided in Rome, Livorno and Istanbul to head out on our own (with lots of research and past visits), but will do tours in Izmir and Athens... That is the plan tonight :)

All three of us our incredibly excited (our daugters first cruise) My second and my husbands 5th..

Hope to see some of you soon.. Anyone with a 12 yr old daughter?? Hannah can't wait to try the Circle 'C' Club

ciao ciao from Aviano Italy... Wink
