    Handicapped Parking Free/Port of Miami

I am not sure if you are aware of this fact.  I wanted to let all know that I just found out that the handicapped parking is free at the Port of Miami for up to 14 days.  So if you are driving and or spending the night b4 a cruise you can take advantage of this.

We will be using the free handicapped parking this weekend, the only thing that we had to do is filled out the form that they sent us for the parking. It just a short form asking for the person name and address, the placard number, along with state and vehicle tag number, the ship and days sailing and then the driver's signature. You can only request the form to be sent to you 30 days before sailing, Only 4 days before we cruise.

Can you tell me where to get the form?  We're sailing in January and would like to be able to park in the free handicapped parking.

Ditto.  We're going to be on the Liberty on 31 January (yes, I need to change my ticker since it still says the Destiny -- and we decided to change and do 7 days instead of 5).  My mother has handicap plates on her vehicle which we will be driving to the port.  I knew that the HC parking was free but I didn't know we needed to fill out a form in advance.

Any information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

POMservice@miamidade.gov.   We emailed them and they said to contact them within 30 days of our cruise.

As of Nov 1, they are no longer mailing out the forms.  You have to pick the form up on your way into the parking garage.  Then fill it out & give it back on  the day you leave.  Have your placard with you.

How did you find this out about just being able to pick up a handicap parking form at the parking garage. Is this the parking garage at the terminal? Did you mean to give the form back when you have been on the cruise and are getting ready to return home?

I have a handicap placard and was going to leave our car at my sister-in-law's while we are on our cruise on 11/30/08, and get her to take us to the terminal. But if we can park for free, I'd just as soon not to put her to so much trouble. We can just take ourselves to the port. We just didn't want to pay those high parking prices.  Thanks for this info.

Handicapped Parking is in fact "FREE", ....... BUT please be aware....... some states (ours doesn't) do not require any proof other than the placard, Miami Port Authority insists on the following:

Handicap Placard ...... Driver's License of person that is handicapped,  ...... Doctor's letter stating that such person is in fact handicapped...... license must say that such person is handicapped!  If you do not have any of the mentioned, you will have to pay $20.00 per day! They will give you a voucher to send back to them so you can try and get your money back!  Good luck with that!  People at the gate don't give a darn about you and their attitude will truly show through!  This happened to us last week.   Welcome to Miami !!!!!!!!!!!!

I was all encouraged about the free parking at the port of Miami for the Handicap - those with a placacard until I read the last post.  The state of NC does not state on their driver's license that they are handicap. We do have the placacard though.   He has his letter from the VA saying he is 100% disabled though.  Different states have different things and how can they say you need that stated on your driver's license when some states don't have that? Hopefully we can work it out?

Re: Handicapped Parking Free/Port of Miami

My husband and I cruised on the Liberty the last week of January.  We parked at the Port of Miami.  We parked in the handicapped area at no charge.  We had to show the placard that we display in the car and we had to show them his driver's license as the placard is issued for him.  We had no problems.  Our Ontario driver's license does not indicate that he is disabled.

     Hope this helps!

We do have the registration for the placacard stating the license plate number for which the handicap card was issued for and we do have registration that this vehicle is registered in his name. Hope that will help.
