A bungee cord to hold the balcony door open at night.

A travel alarm clock with LED numbers so you can see what time it is in the middle of the night and I recommend a flashlight to help you see your way to the bathroom in the night or a nightlight for the bathroom ~ I just can't sleep with a light on though!

We usually just leave the bathroom door cracked a little.  It won't keep you awake, but it will light your way in the middle of the night.  You can program the phone in the cabin to wake you at a particular time.

Re: What do you wish you had taken??

We just got back from a 5 day cruise and there are a few things I was glad we brought.  We did bring a power strip as it was recommended by others on this site.  It worked out well as we charged cell phones and laptops.  There is only one outlet in the room, and one in the bathroom.  The other outlet is a 220 volt one and will not work.

Another thing I am glad we brought is laundry detergent.  The washers on the ship are front loaders so you want to bring high efficiency (HE) detergent.  We put one scoop of the dry powder in several zip lock bags and it worked perfect.  We also took a few dryer sheets and put them in a zip lock as well.  Cheaper than buying the vending machine ones.  We washed clothes about halfway through the trip.  That way we could bring less clothes and have clean ones for the rest of the trip.  We changed our clothes a lot more than we thought.  You get up in the morning and wear casual wear, but then for dinner you want to freshen up and change.  So you go through two outfits most days.

We also brought the anti-bacterial wipes you can get in the single packets.  I wiped everything down in the room when we got there to ease my mind.

    Hope this helps!!

Ziplock baggies.  They are great to have to put any shells or sand you may collect.  Also it is a good idea to put bottles liquid stuff in baggies before putting them in your luggage that way they don't break open in your luggage and get all over your clothes.

I also put a collapsable duffel bag in my luggage.  I know you can only check one bag for free now but I am still packing the duffel bag and will pay for it if necessary.  But anyways, I put my dirty laundry in the duffel bag then have more room in my luggage to wrap souveneirs and such and don't have to worry about it.

I also heard to pack a highlighter to mark your capers and a pack of post it notes so you can leave notes for each other on the door.  I plan on doing that.

I also agree with the alarm clock especially if you have an inside cabin.  You have no idea what time it is always dark.

Oh also don't forget medicines such as benedryl (great if you get sum burned); tylenol; stomache pills; dramamine etc.  It is good to have them and not need them then to need them and pay the price on the ship.

Do you member what length bungee cord is needed? I went to purchase one and the sizes range from 18" up to 42". Is is a long stretch?

I don't know exactly what length since I didn't take one, but probably about 24" to 36" long.  If it is too long you can tie knots in it to shorten it.

This info is SO helpful as we're first time cruisers, so I'm taking notes!!  lol  What about a water-proof camera?  Someone from my church recommended it but I haven't priced them yet.  I hope other cruise veterans jump on the bandwagon here and suggest things because, again, this info is priceless!  Thank you ....

We bought underwater cameras at home for snorkeling and I was disappointed in  the  pictures they just dont give the same colors as you see we bought Kodak I dont know if there is a better one out there if that is what you want them for and a clock is good and also flashlight If you have alot of clothes you want to hang up I would suggest hangers also they give you some but not enough

This is going to sound silly and pretty obvious that you would need it, but: Sunblock and Aloe lotion! My friends and I had been tanning for 2 months before our cruise and we still ended up burning. That sunblock and aloe would have come in very handy and the sun is much stronger in the caribbean than up here in NH! Again, probably common sense, but maybe not...

Great suggestions! This is our second cruise so I knew of a few little things I wanted to get for this one but I still love getting other suggestions from people! It's amazing what you don't think about that just seems so obvious after someone else says it!!!

No, it's not silly at all.  I'll make sure my husband has his suntan lotion, but as for me ... well, I was born tan.Big Smile
