Hi Katie,  We live in the Western part of the state of Mass. in the city of Chicopee.  Where are you from?  My son just turned 16 back in July.  This will be his first cruise.  I'm a little worried about the 4 days of school he'll miss because this is a very important year for him.  He'll start looking at colleges so he can't let his grades slip.  He has a very heavy course load this year.  How many people are you cruising with?  It's just my hubby, son and myself.  We have an aft balcony room on the verandah deck, how about you?  I am so excited to go - 67 more days.  yahoooooooooo       JoAnneSmile

    Re: Thanksgiving DREAM - 11/23/2009

We are at 63 days and counting, I saw on the webcam this morning actual people on the ship.  She sails in a little over 5 hours!!!  I am getting so excited...just trying to stay out of shopping mode, still a little early for that.

We also have a balcony, we are deck 11.  I really wanted to be near Camp Carnival for my youngest and I enjoy being close the lido deck.  Our PVP grabbed us up that last room in that category.  It is going to be a bit cramped but with as little time as we spend in the room I couldn't afford to book one of the suites.

Can't wait to get on board and to make some new friends!

    Good Afternoon Everyone

The time is just flying by.  Just got back from my Canada cruise on the Triumph.  Can someone tell me where to find the link to the Dream webcam?

It is on one of the other posts under the Dream forum.  Can't see much now as it is nighttime and late over there.

Is anyone else going crazy waiting for this cruise?  For a while time seemed to fly by now it is in slow motion.  Went shopping last night buying a few items...not too much as I don't have room to store them.  I think I am going to go out on Saturday by myself and try to find a few sundresses and shorts...should be able to get them at a good price now.

Hi All, are there any cruisers from NH, leaving NY at the end of Nov. could be a bit cold for the first day or so. We booked our cruise early on with the super saver rate and I am glad we did as each time the price goes down Carnival adjust my rate in a form of a ship credit, now we have $400 to use on-board. It's nice to see some new pic's of the Dream, I'm sure more will follow once folks complete their cruises. We are one of the darring family trying the new cove balconies, should be interesting, for the extra bucks why not.

    Thanks,

    Katie

Katie, if you book through the early saver (no deposit refund if you need to cancel) then you will be able to get the on-board credit, if the cost of the cruise comes down, from what you paid. Two ways this can be done, if you booked through a travel agent you need to go through them, if you booked directly with carnival, you can fill out a on-line request. The lowest cost needs to be either at carnival.com or a web travel site (vacationstogo.com). I found just call Carnival directly got me my best price, and actually the Carnival Rep. told me about a special rate for NH residents. Hopefully this will be helpful. let me know how you made out, it usually takes a few days for the credit to show up. GB

    Hi boulagr,

I sent in my request for the credit today so we'll see.......

What part of New Hampshire are you from? My favorite spot is North Conway. 2 weeks ago we went up to Londonderry for that big flea market. Thank you for that information, I will keep you posted as to the answer I receive.

    Hi Katie

We live in Manchester, how about you. Have you every sailed out of NYC in Nov. before, this could  be interesting weather wise. Our son will be joining my wife and I on this cruise, he is a "special young man" who enjoys his pizza. We took him two summers ago on a ten night cruise out of NYC, he had a blast though the weather was a bit too humid for our liking. The wife and I are in our early fifty's and still enjoy doing to fun things in life when we can. How about you folks, have you cruised before.   Take care. GB

Hi!  I am new to this whole "blogging" thing.  I apologize, I started a session "Roll call 11/23/2009" as I had thought that was the "protocol" seeing others out there with that title.  I was told of this chain.  Hopefully I am doing this right.  We are coming from Philly to NYC.  This will be the first time ever for 4 of the 5 of us.  We are mom/dad over 60, brother/sister late 30's, and grandson 12.  Reading over these comments, we too are thinking of doing a limo to get around traffic/parking/walking. Mom over 60 has some mobility problems so the less walking the better ;)  Just curious, is anybody looking into booking the Steak House for a dinner?  Any reviews on that restaurant?  My brother and I are thinking of going there one night.  I read some good tips about what to pack.  If anybody has some "must haves" please share!   Also, I found out (be accident) that the only "non-smoking" rooms are in the Spa - does this mean there is smoking allowed in the halls of the other areas on the ship or are there public designated smoking areas?  Just curious as we are non-smokers and my mom is best not exposed - we just need to be prepared :)  54 DAYS!!!!   WOOHOO!!

    Re: Thanksgiving DREAM - 11/23/2009

Welcome ms-lisa71.  We are only about 40 minutes from Philly down at the Jersey Shore.  We are pretty sure about doing the limo thing, we have cruised out of NY 6 times and we did the bus thing once and the limo the rest of the time, driving in Manhattan is horrible...it is actually very easy to navigate, it is laid out well, I find it easier to navigate Manhattan than center city but the traffic is like 6 times worse than center city!

We have booked the steakhouse for 2 nights.  Have not done one on Carnival yet but have on NCL and RCCL and have been worth every penny.

There are non smoking areas on the ship but pretty much the only non smoking rooms are the spa rooms.  If your mom can't be around smoke you will definately want to avoid the casino as I find that to be the worse place for smoke on the ship.  We are non smokers also but I have to tell you, no matter what cruise I have gone on, I have never been anywhere on a ship where I thought it was so bad you had to leave.  Alot of the ships you have to walk through the casino to get somewhere else and we do this and are through it in less than a minute so no big dea.  If we want to gamble and it is really smokey we come back later when it isn't as bad.  You will be able to find places for her and you can't smoke in the restaurants so that is a plus.

52 days and counting!!  Me and my hubby are also in our mid thirties and have 2 girls, 15 & 9...maybe we will see you there!

Tracyanns - I can't believe how this is creeping up!  The smoke shouldn't be an issue, she doesn't need to "stay away" it is more so just a comfort thing.  As for the steak house, do you have an idea - are reservations before we board required or requested?  The reason is, like I said, we are new to this and would rather fell it out for when it would be best for my brother and I to dine on our own.  (Maybe we can meet other singles too ;)

I did secure the limo company, now it is a matter of the quote/etc...  We actually tossed around an idea of renting a large passanger van and have a friend drive.  But, the rental/gas/tolls aren't much cheaper plus the outright fear of NYC and the rental getting damaged in/out isn't worth it.

As for motion sickness, I have been told by 3 others the most effective treatment they know of is the bracelets - do you have an y recommendations?  Also, when we leave NYC, will they tell us which side of the boat Lady Liberty will be on?

I posted and realized I had more questions.  I am told that the key to the room is a credit card type swipe card.  I am thinking of creative ways to carry - not loose - it.  I was thinking of bringing a hole punch and a lanyard (sp?).  Do you know, is that OK to do?  As a note, I love Great Wolf Lodge and one of the absolute best inventions - they strap one of those non-removable braceletes on you.  The band had a chip in it, does your room/charges and is waterproof - the BEST thing ever!!  So, I'm trying to improvise here.

Next one - Have you ever used the spa?  They say my 12 year old is welcome, but I just wanted to get a feel - do you agree?

Thanks - and come on Thanksgiving!!
