    Excursion question?

Hi all! Am planning a cruise in Feb on Destiny. I was wondering what excursions are recommended at the Jamaica port. I was thinking of Dunns Falls (but I have a knee that "goes out" on my sometimes and I heard the rocks were very slippery?) also, the Bamboo Beach club sounds fun so I was wondering if anyone has gone on that..how the beach is there and the entertainment, etc. (food, and drinks too!). Or if anyone has any other ideas or recommendations! I'm going with some single friends and we are all school professionals so don't really want to do too many kid activies (we love em..but want to forget about kids for a bit!).

    thanks! Angie

    Re: Excursion question?

We just got back from our carnival Destiny cruise from Grand Cayman and Jamaica.  We chose the ChukkaChukka inertube safari and we loved it very much.  Here is a rundown of the excursion:

First half hour was driving on a open-air land rover bus that seats 10.  Nice ride and we got to see some of the culture and inhabitants. The ride was an experience all by itself.  We passed many kids all dressed up for school and saw two or three school shacks.  The tube ride was about an hour and a half.  Perfect -wasn't too long or too short.  some rapids, some nice slow drifting.  The guides helped us through every part and there was no debris in the crystal clear water.  Guides also sang some songs while we were floating along.  The landing area was nice with a snack and flowers.  They take pictures and we bought about a dozen or so for 20 bucks.  Then another half hour ride back.  We had the driver drop us off at the craft market.  This was an awesome excursion for us.

    Re: Excursion question?

We just got back from cruising on the Destiny (Sept 27th-Oct 2nd) and we did the mini-boat tour and Dunn's river falls.  The miniboat tour was a blast, my husband and I each had our own boat with a guide.  We were racing each other through the waves while our guides would show us which way to go (we were driving the boats ourselves).  Every now and then they would have us slow down so that they could point out various landmarks and they were very knowledgable and answered many of our questions.  We took the boats all the way to the base of Dunn's river falls.

The Falls were so much fun.  The rocks are not slippery at all and while it is quite a workout (we were both sore the next day LOL!) it is very well organized.  There are always several guides helping out those that need a hand climbing.  Neither my husband nor I are in perfect shape but we made it up without any incident.  Every now and then we would stop and swim in the pools of water.  Feeling the water cascading over and around you is so liberating.  I must say that even though my husband and I are both a little out of shape we managed to do the climb without any problems.  I would highly recommend this excursion.
