    Cabo question

Does anyone know how far Cabo Wabo is from port here? About how much would a taxi cost? Is there anything else to see near this attraction?? thanks!

    Re: Cabo question

Cabo Wabo is walking distance from the pier.  Don't know exactly how far, but it's a nice walk through downtown with lots of great shops along the way.  You will get a map of Cabo on the ship.  You can also take a cab which should be pretty cheap because of the short distance.

On the way to Cabo Wabo, you will walk past the Cabo Dolphin aquarium.  We like to walk from the pier, all the way through town, then stop at Senor Sweets for a gelato (in the new mall).  After that, we walk all the way around the marina to go back to the pier.

There are lots of excursion choices available through Carnival.

When are you going and on what ship?

    Re: Cabo question

OK....  Don't hate me for this suggestion...

Since this is your first cruise, why not take the 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise on the Pride?  She is such a great ship and it will be one of her last cruises for that itinerary before she is moved to the east coast.  Ports are Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo.

Ensenada was OK, but it just does not compare to the Mexican Riviera ports.  We would do a short cruise again for a quick getaway because we are so close to the Port of Long Beach.

    Where are you coming from?

    Re: Cabo question

Thanks for the suggestion. I wish that would work with my schedule. I actually would prefer to take a cruise from FL but that did not work as well. I live in South Dakota and the flight times to FL are horrible. Plus the cheapest airfare I could find was over $600. I can get to CA for about half that.

Because of my job schedule, I am really limited to dates that would work in January. So, this cruise fits the best time wise too. I figure since it is my first cruise, I wont know any better but next time I will do something different. I am hoping to love cruising and want to take my daughter on a Disney cruise in a couple of years when she is old enough to enjoy it.

    Thanks!

    Hi rufaeldawg,

You say that the Pride is moving to the East coast.  Is that just a seasonal move or is it permanent?  If it is permanent, do you know which ship is going to replace it?

My wife and I want to take the Mexican Rivera cruise in Feb 09 and we live in Texas.  I would like to know what air lines go into Long Beach and some good hotels close to the Cruise Terminal.  Can you help?

     Thanks,

    Jim & Pam

    Re: Cabo question

    Hi Jim & Pam!

As far as we know, the Pride is moving permanently because the Splendor is replacing her.  We are going on the Pride on February 1, 2009 for the last time - unfortunately, since she is leaving.  We keep hoping Carnival will change their decision on this...  I do not like the layout or the cabins on the Splendor from what I have seen, and I do not like the ratio of crew to passengers.

I do not know about airlines going to Long Beach or LAX because we always drive to the pier.  There are several hotels near the ship.  The Queen Mary is closest being right next to the Pride.  It would be fun to stay on the QM and you can check in for the Pride when you are on the QM.  There is another hotel walking distance (within about 1/2 mile) from the ship, I think Coast Long Beach Hotel - they do offer a shuttle to the ship.  There are lots of other hotels also that have packages with shuttle service for those flying in for cruises.

    When is your cruise?

    Re: Cabo question

Thanks for the info.  We haven't decided on a date yet.  We are just looking into the cruise now.  We usually like to go between November and February.  We've been on the the Conquest the last three cruises and we really like it, but are ready for a change.  We haven't flown to a cruise yet, so we are just trying to see what is the best.

I have been looking at the QE and think it would be fantastic, Just a little pricey for just a one night stay.  I[m not crazy about flying into LAX, but thought Long Beach would be better and a lot closer.

Going on the Feruary cruise sounds like fun, especially since it will be the last time on the Pride.

Again thanks for the info it helps alot.

    Re: Cabo question

I would call the Queen Mary to see if there are any special rates.  I looked at their rate for today and it was $125 and for the Coast Hotel it was $118 - some of the lowest rates for a Long Beach hotel on the website I found!  If you go in February, I would guess the rates would be the lowest due to the time of year and the weather.

This year we sailed on the Pride on January 27 and it was during a huge rain storm!

The Pride rates seem to be going up, so I would not wait to book.  It is probably filling up because the last cruise out of Long Beach will be in March for the Pride.

    Re: Cabo question

If you found the rates at QM at around $125, that is alot better than what I found.  I don't remember what dates I was looking at originally, but they were somewhere around $150 to $165.  $125 is a lot better.  Thanks.

We walked to Cabo Wabo from the port.  We took a walking tour all around Cabo.  Easy walk.
