    Seasick AFTER the cruise?

We are just back from Conquest, Our first cruise!  We loved it... however going over the bridge leaving Galveston I asked my daughter if she still felt like she was on the boat and she said no.  Just lucky me I guess??  We got back yesterday and I have been sick ever since we got back.  It is like I am seasick, when I rollover, stand up, sit down..... whatever.  It  is actually pretty tough right now typing this and looking at the screen.   Anyone else out there have this sensation?

Thanks and any answeres are appreciated....  Suzette

My husband had this really bad after our first cruise, so bad in fact that he didn't want to cruise again *gasp*!!  Well, I finally convinced him and this time he just left his motion sickness patch on for a couple of days after the cruise and he was fine.

Suzette, YES!! It was awful for me and I never found any answers except to ride it out. Sorry.  I got back on July 31st and even yesterday felt a little dizzy. Today is better. It's been over 2 weeks, so not sure why it's lasted so long.  Someone had posted somewhere the actual medical term for this condition, but when I googled it, there wasn't any remedies out there. I didn't get seasick while I was on my cruise, so I didn't even bother taking my Ginger caplets.  But next time I'm going to and see what happens. I didn't want to take dramamine or bonine for fear of getting tired.  My son did and he didn't suffer any sealegs after the cruise, whereas last year he did and he didn't take the bonine.  I have faith it will get better for you! I always find it funny that the land seems to still be moving, after a couple of days it fades.

My dw had this after our first cruise and went to the doc and got some phenergan 25 mgs. This condition is not that uncommon.

    Re: Seasick AFTER the cruise?

I think we all had the same feeling after the first couple of cruises.  It usually goes away after a day or two and we have never taken anything for it.  We haven't felt it on any of the cruises since then.

SuziQ, just wait until you get in the shower. I've had this problem too, but it goes away over time. I wan't really sick, but just felt a bit woozy(if that's a word). Be sure to take some dramamine on your next cruise or get the patch for motion sickness.

    Re: Seasick AFTER the cruise?

Same here. Went on just a short cruise from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas twice in the 90's and the second cruise was a rough ride. Everybody hugging barf bags !! Not me. Until my feet hit dirt and it was get out of my way !! But it only lasted a short time so just hang in there. We leave in 44 days on our cruise and I plan to take patches to start using before my feet hit land again. Maybe this time it will be better. Hope you feel better soon. Anybody else going on the Holiday---Oct. 2 ??

Cindy, you need to get some dramamine or bonine...get it from any drugstore or even walmart/target. Go ahead and take some, you will feel better. I have horrible motion sickness and love to cruise. Bad combo. So, before we board the ship I take my first non-drowsy dramamine and continue to take it the whole cruise and I didn't feel ONE BIT of nausea/dizziness etc. during or after the cruise. I tried the patches the first cruise and they didn't work for me, but my motion sickness is severe.

    Re: Seasick AFTER the cruise?

Although I am about to take my first cruise, I thought I'd thrown in my two cents worth.  I used to get that same feeling after getting off a treadmill.  As soon as my workout was finished and I stepped off the machine, the floor felt as if it was moving.  Over time, that feeling definitely goes away.  Now, I can go on a treadmill and get off with no feeling of the floor moving.  I think sometimes your body needs time to adjust to new sensations.  So maybe on your next few cruises you will not have any symptoms.  I plan on taking ginger pills with me, just in case...since this is my first cruise.

    Re: Seasick AFTER the cruise?

Motion sickness is a condition. It is not something that will just go away, some motions affect it more than others. For me, running on a treadmill would be no problem because my body is in motion, cruising is a problem because of repetitive, slow motions even while lying or sitting still. I can fly anytime I want without any medicine. The motion on a plane is not repetitive, it is sudden jerking motion and that doesn't affect me. I hope you don't have problems on the ship, but I would pack some non-drowsy dramamine just in case. I would be prepared because the ship hands out the equivalent to bonine which is a different drug and it doesn't work for me, so I have to take my own.
