Congratulations in advance:  are we all invited to the party on your cove balcony?

We plunked down our deposits yesterday and have already started looking at things to see and do on shore.

    Sure! The more the merrier!

I have been scouring the web looking for non Carnival excursions to book in advance.

    Re: Looking at Shore Excursions

Ditto for us.  We prefer to organize our own excursions and prefer smaller groups rather than huge bus excursions .... a few couples or on our own suits us just fine.

Pompeii is a must see for us (or Herculaneum) but we have not found any tour that turns us on so far.  Beyond that we have decided on nothing else.

Just got back from the mail and found travel and pocket guides for Paris, Venice, Rome and Barcelona waiting to be picked up ..... will keep me more than occupied for a few days.

My husband and I are booked for the inaugural cruise also. It will be our second time with this itinerary as we did Carnival Freedom in July 2007. No kids this time, so we can take our time sightseeing!

Should we be pumping you for tour ideas or are your tour memories somewhat vague as you might have spent most of your time looking for washrooms and food establishments for the kids <g>?

We picked up tour books for Rome, Venice and Barcelona and are thinking of spending a few days in Rome immeditely before the cruise.  Pompeii is the only port turn that is front and center on the "must see" tour list at the moment.  Did you folks visit Pompeii or Herculaneum?

Ask any questions you want about the itinerary.  The kids were 17 and 25 so we weren't holding their hands so we really did get alot out of the trip. As for Naples, we caught a ferry to Capri.  It's a beautiful island....lots of tourists though! Pompeii - I had been to Rome a few times for work and the locals always told me to avoid Pompeii. For some reason they all perferred Ostia Attica outside Rome. I've been to Ostica Attica and really don't see why though. There were several folks on Freedom that did Pompeii and enjoyed it except for the heat. All of them took the cruisetours but it is suppose to be easy to get to by the local train. I think we plan on taking the ferry to Sorrento for the day.

We are doing the same. Arriving in Rome Saturday morning. Two full days of trying to soak up as much as we can! ; )

My fiance and I are considering booking this cruise as our honeymoon cruise.    I can't wait.    Any thoughts on whether an inaugeral cruise is a good idea or not?

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I cannot comment on the good or bad of an inaugural cruise as this is our first.  The minus is that there will doubtless be a few glitches (usually are on a brand new ship) but the plus is that they will never be far away from the shipyard so thinks should be made ship-shape quickly and the other plus is our staterooms will that that "new car smell".

Just booked on the Dream after being bumped off the Liberty out of Dover on the 6th Sept. Did this trip on the Freedom  in September 2007, enough places to visit to make it worthwile doing again, plus that entry into Venice is breathtaking
