I asked for the manager who was standing right there in a suit, but yet nobody wanted to claim he was the manager but I knew better, so I just started talking to him and said I wanted to return my fake jewelry.  He said "Do you have your receipt?", Yes, "Do you have a certificate?", Yes - which totally blew them away as I had everything including my note from Kay Jewelers.  He then took the paperwork, in the little back room, came back and proceeded to tell me that saleswoman didn't work there anymore.  I said I could care less and I didn't want any trouble and to just please give me my money back.  I was firm and they knew I meant business so he went on to say "I have to get the money from the owner, you'll have to wait a bit" which I said was fine as I had another store to go look for.  I told them I needed to be on the last ferry so don't take too long.  He was fine really and went on to say how my jewelry was still a good deal in Mexico, whereas I said not what you charged me that's for sure.  The store had no customers in it so hopefully word is getting out about these places.

Good work!!! My appraisal for the synthetic Alexandrite and brilliants in sterling silver with yellow plating was $225- I paid 500 Mar 31 st at MG.   I dropped the dispute with American Express.. How much were you overcharged? I am sure if I were going back I would do as you did.

The ring was priced around $3,000.00 put paid $1,750.00   Appraisal in the US was $75.00.  Like I said before, my attorney is now working with the credit card company.

Do you happen to have centro joyero's current phone number?  The other numbers posted on this site are not valid.  Thanks

I got taken by the same store for $1300.  My credit card would not return the charges.  They said that I paid for it in person so there is nothing that they can do.  Did you get any info?

I haven't read all of this thread yet but does someone have a list of these so called scammer stores??? I think for us newbies it would be most helpful? I am going to Cozumel in the winter and I am a woman yes I want jewelry. I do have some knowledge of jewelry because I worked in 2 different stores over a period of 12 years, but hey some scammers are really good.

I would appreciate it if someone can tell me where to avoid on my trip.

April_4_us, I would avoid any store not on the Carnival recommended list that you get on board especially for jewelry

    Avoid anyplace not recommended.

If you insist on going to a store that is not recommended do not spend more money than you can look back on and say, "okay, losing that much money is not a big deal".

    Stick to the Recommendeds.

My credit card company, Caital one, reverse the charges for the ring, priced as $1,750.00.  After 4 months of communications with CC I finally told them I was not paying for the item and they would hear from my attorney.  I finally got in touch with the fraud department and reported the charged as a fraudulent charge.  It took another few weeks with credit card company hounding me and presistence that I was not going to pay for this ring they took the charge off my bill.  I even told the credit card co. that I would send the ring to them and they could forward the ring to the merchant.  I can't stand even to look at the ring.

Going on another cruise in Sept you better believe I will not purchase one thing outside the US.

Hope all goes well with your claim

I looked for this store.  Unless they are going by another name now, or they are not on Melgar, or I missed it, they are no longer there.

On the jewlery channel they sell tanzanites all the time. I recommend looking at their pricing on loose stones before buying one that is set. They are very soft stones so you should take an eye piece or exam the stone carefully. We bought quite a few loose stones that appraised for a considerable amount then what we paid for them from this station years ago.
