    Refurbished?

We are planning to cruise on the Destiny and I read that it would be refurbished this year.  Does anyone know what exactly this means? What are tey doing to it? And when will they be done doing it?

Good Question.  I read it was going to be spit polished myself, but nothing definite.  After seeing your post, I thought I'd put a little "break time" into some online research.

What I came up with (I think through cruise 411) is that the Destiny is scheduled for dry-dock September 7th through the 20th.  Hope it doesn't run late, because my wife and I are cruising on the 21st.  Looking forward to having a fresh ship under our feet.

It didn't say exactly what they are doing, but the ships registry and home port is changing from San Juan to Miami.

    Re: Refurbished?

If its being refurbished in September, then I am happy. We will travel on it in Decemeber. Generally when they are refurbishing, they do finish on the designated date. The port changing from San Juan to Miami could be correct, because thats where we are leaving out of.

Yea mon, no problem!!! Everything Irie

Here is the answer I got from my travel agent who said she gets regular updates from Carnival on the cruises she has booked.  And I quote:

"The ship is getting an "oil change" and "rotating tires".  Just the usual routine maintenance.  It is also being given the upgrade for the bedding........oooooohhhh....the Carnival Comfort Bed. It has 600 count, Egyptian cotton sheets and comforters.  WOW, I love the beds on Carnival!"

I guess thay are not using those 4" hard foam rubber mattresses and sandpaper sheets anymore.  Well shoot, there's one less thing for me to pick on.  I don't think Carnival has ever been accused of being comfortable.  Just what exactly is Egyptian Cotton anyway?

Just wondering what ports you will be doing.  I am going next week and we leave out of San Juan and hit a port every day.........What Islands are you going to post "oil change"?

Hi there!! We are booked on the Destiny on 12/15/08....I spoke to someone at Carnival that said the ship will be dry docked the whole month of September this year to be refurbished. The specifications of the refurbishment were suites, category 11 or higher will be completely re done, and some "common areas" throughout the ship will be re done also. That is all I heard.

    Re: Refurbished?

    Hello:

We cruised on the Destiny over New Years of 07/08. When we heard the age of the ship we were a little scared. Much to our surprise that the ship was in great condition. There were a few little things worn out with age, otherwise the ship was great. The refurb should be superb!!!!!!

Someone mentioned you could never accuse Carnival of being comfortable (in reference to the upgraded bedding on Destiny).  I've only been on two cruises, and they were on the Fantasy and Fascination, and the bedding (and mattresses) on both were SO comfortable I wanted to bring them home with me!

I am a travel agent and I asked our Carnival rep and here is what she said about the updates to Carnival Destiny:

The seaside theatre will be installed and the cabins will be renovated.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

the seaside theatre is basically a big movie screen that you can watch movies under the stars. The rooms I beleive are getting updated bedding, and I think flat screen tvs in the rooms. I also beleive they are updating the bath rooms.

    Re: Refurbished?

The seaside theater is the huge video screen on the lido deck (i believe) where they show movies that you can watch from the pool/hot tub/lounge chairs.  We were lucky enough to see this on the Liberty last year and so excited that the Destiny is getting it!  I'm not sure what the stateroom renovations will be, tho.

    Happy Cruising!!

Oh, now that sounds very nice!  I keep reading bad/good reviews.  The bad ones were making me a nervous wreck.  I also read that the ship was rock?  I'll just have to chill out and wait until I'm on my own cruise to form an opinion.

Does the Destiny have the new waterworks? Is that being done in the dry dock period?
