All the other islands have lots of posts, but there is not much here........can any one that has been there make any suggestions?

We were there in 2000 aboard the Fascination.  It was our first cruise and Dominica was our star port.  In the morning we went snorkeling at a place called "Champagne Bay", it is a moderately sized area of water that formed over lava and there are millions of tiny air bubbles that filter up into the swimming space - like snorkeling in a big glass of champagne.  We then went back to the ship and had a quick lunch and took a taxi to Dominica National Park.  There were guided hike up to the watefall.  We swam under the waterfall and relaxed then hiked back.  Word of warning - I had no idea we were going on a little hike, and I wore sandals - that made it a little more difficult, the next time I would certainly wear something a little more hiking friendly.  We also visited St Thomas, Martinique, San Juan, and St. Maarten.  Dominica was def. a fav for us.

We went there in 2002, we liked it a lot, it was the most natural, untouched by tourism of all the islands.  The items we bought there, were some of the best high quality, handmade items.  We went on a tour of the botanical gardens and I think it was Trafalger Falls, really like the gardens.

My husband and I were on a cruise that stopped in Dominica in June 2006. We actually did 2 different excursions. The first was a trip to the Emerald Pool (I can't remember the exact excursion). It was fun and absolutely gorgeous once we got there, but unfortunately much of the trip consisted of driving to and from the Emerald Pool. There was a little hiking involved but nothing too terrible; however, I would recommend sneakers as the terrain was rocky at points (especially near the pool itself). Plenty of opportunities for photo ops as Dominica (and the Emerald Pool) is absolutely breathtaking. The second excursion that we went on was the River Tubing and we had a blast! It was probably one of the most enjoyable things we did on our cruise (we stopped in Aruba, Barbados, and St. Thomas as well). I guess it really depends on what you're more interested in doing. You definitely get to see more of Dominica through the various Emerald Pool excursions and will have plenty of photo opportunities, but you'll spend a lot of time traveling; or you could do something like river tubing which is a total blast but you don't get to see as much of Dominica. My husband and I love to do both....so we chose to do both excursions as there was enough time to do so. Hopefully I was more helpful than confusing.
