    zip-line in roatan

i've been in touch with 2 tour companies. the first one is boddentourscom, they are offering jungle canopy zip-line. i also got in touch with shoretrips.com who says that the place they send their clients uses double lines and are insured and doesn't think that jungle canopy does that. anyone have any clue?? tks a bunch!!

    Re: zip-line in roatan

I have no clue. My son wants to zip line in Honduras. Plan to use bodden tours.com Don't know which zip line to use. I will be on the 6/29 cruise on the Legend. I am kind of nervous to book the zip lines. What do you think about it?  I know about the accident last year.

We plan to cave tube in Belize and that leaves Honduras to do the zip lines. I know I can book a zip line excursion with a outside source in Belize but I would rather do the cave tubing with Carnival. It will be a all day trip and I don't want to take the chance of being left behind in Belize.

    Thanks- Ang

    southshorecanopy.com in Roatan.

$65 each.  Met them at 8am went right up, we were back at the pier by 9:45.

Personally, I hated it.  But then I'm scared of heights and I figured that would happen anyway.  But my wife loved it, and she's in charge, and we did my horse riding in Belize, so I did that for her.

I bought the "survivor" t-shirt at the end, and within 24 hours my legs stopped shaking.  If pretending you're a baboon is your thing, then do it.  Tell Therise "hi" for me.  They were very nice about me being petrified.

In Belize, for cave tubing, do cave-tubing.com.  Unless you'd rather spend about twice as much, and have half the trip and a third of the fun.

The Carnival-offered excursion puts you into the river halfway up, and just tells you to head downstream.  You can't get lost, but people are bumping into everything along the way and getting stuck in shallows in dark caves...  And they charge you more to let you fend for yourself.

The cave-tubing folks take you farther upstream, let you dive into a deep pool if you wish, then form a chain and lead you down around all the Carnival schlemiels who are stuck in the shallows.  Plus they feed you afterwards, and give you a shot of cashew "wine" on the bus trip up.  You can buy more shots for $1.

    Re: zip-line in roatan

We just did the zip lining in Roatan.   I booked through Shore Trips.  They use South Shore Canopy and indeed its a dual cable system.  Felt safe and the guides were great.  Carnival cancelled theirs.  They were using Gumbalimba and a lady had died back in March.  I read the news report yesterday when I got home cause I was curious.  Not sure what kind of cable system is used in Gumbalimba Park.   South Shore has a series of 16 lines.  It was such a thrill and I would recommend this excursion.  We had our 9yr old DD along and there was another family with a 2 yr old.  At the longest fastest line, the guides gathered us and explained that anyone that didn't feel comfortable going it along, you could go down with a guide.  You need to be in somewhat good physical condition for this excursion.  First it's hot and there is no water available, hydrate before.  Second you need some upper body strenght to boost yourself up to attach to the line (the guide does help you) and lastly there are a few places where you have to walk up a steep path to get to the next platform.  There were a few ladies that were not able to brake (using your hands, squeeze and pull on the line) and slammed into the trees.  Teh guides are at the end of the line to help, but its hard to stop 150-200 lb person when they are flying rapidly on a cable.  Also if you get nervous and brake too soon, you will stop in the middle of the line and lose your momentum to get to the end.  This is when you have to start doing hand over hand to get to the end or one of the guides will have to go up to get you.  That's not easy for them either.  The safety harness is the first thing attached and the last to come off the line.  When you get to the platform, they immediately attach to you the next line or something else if there is a wait. You are never standing on the high platform w/o your safety attached to something.  After the zip lining we were taken to a private beach club close to Tabyana.  Less crowded.  Has a restaurant & bar, plus bathrooms.  It was a nice sandy beach.

    Re: zip-line in roatan

Hi guys. I just booked my family for the cave tubing and zip line for the Belize port. We will be on the Western Caribbean Cruise in January, 2009. My kids are excited about both activities. I booked through a private company ( actionboysbelize.com ). I have read a lot rave reviews about them.

I need some help in booking activites for the kids in Roatan. I have no idea about what to do at this port. Please help me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: zip-line in roatan

From what you say about the Roatan Southshore Canopy tour, with 16 lines - that sounds more exciting than the Belize Aerial tour with 9 lines at about the same price. The Belize tour does go through absolutely beautiful rainforest, and near limestone cliffs that are sooo photo op - and they take great photos which we bought at the end of the zipline tour; they are also right next to the cave system where we did our cave tubing afterwards. So the combo in Belize looks quite more attractive in my opinion. And the average cost of the combo we learned is $110 per person, and about $90 for kids. It is, however, a one hour drive to the caves/zipline from the port, but on nicely paved highway, right down to the caves/zipline park. Huge bathroom complex (thank goodness). The Belize countryside is quite beautiful as well, with flat ground leading to hilly country and lovely villages and farms. We went with Major Tom. The independent operators do have their act together, and at the caves, actually work together, helping each other, and generally making all of us feel well protected and cared for. At half the price of the ship's tour - quite a buy!!! Shopping back at the port was fabulous (bargaining with the salespeople was fun, as were the hairbraiding ladies!!).

sounds great! our port in roatan has been canceled so i am thrilled to hear about belize. i was worried it might be a little rushed since it's a 5 hour excursion, but it sounds like you had time to shop afterwards. GREAT!! we are going with a private tour, also. did you have trouble getting off the ship early enough? tks!

Thank you very much, but I am saving the zip line for Belize. We are doing a combination of the zip line and cave tubing with actionboysbelize.com .I read some positive reviews about them. Being a former Marine, I feel safe booking through them. The owner is a former Police officer who worked in the anti drug unit.  They also offer a free tour of the Belize Zoo if time permits.

    Praise God
