    Transatlantic Cruise

My husband and I are on the Freedom in November '08 for this cruise, we have cruised on all but 3 of Carnival ships and more than once on many of their ships, can anyone tell me what to expect for 5 or 6 days at sea crossing the Atlantic in November.  We love cruising and we never take a 7 day cruise anymore, it has to be more.

     Hi, Dulce.

I second your question. My wife and I are also aboard the Freedom for the November transatlantic cruise. This will be our third cruise, all with Carnival (Spirit in Alaska 2006, Glory in E. Carribean 2007). Both previous cruises were 7 days. We're excited about the extra sea days, too, and are curious about what all might be available.

    Re: Transatlantic Cruise

We too are going to be on the Freedom Transatlantic cruise in November.  We were on this same ship last spring in it's inaugural season for a 12-day Mediterranean Cruise.  It is a very lovely ship and we enjoyed it very much.  There were a few bugs (since this was just it's third ever voyage), but I'm sure they have all been worked out.

We did a transatlantic once before - but it was is early April and went from the US to Europe and it was a Royal Caribbean ship.  We LOVED it!  During the 15 day voyage we never, ever were at a loss for things to do!  It was a most relaxing cruise!  The weather was wonderful and there were loads of activities on the ship all day long.

Fear not!  This is going to be great fun!

i will be going with my husband and my son  on the transatlantic crossing in November '08 on the freedom.  we will be flying into rome a day early to see the sights. we planned this trip for over a year.

my mother crossed the atlantic in 1959. it was from germany to canada over the rough north atlantic.  from what i have heard the south atlantic is much smoother.

    Re: Transatlantic Cruise

My Husband and Son and I are also on this cruise.  We are arriving in Rome on the 3rd for some fun filled days of site seeing.  I have a couple of questions if anyone can answer them

    1. Does anyone know which days will be the formal days?
    2. Does anyone know how the Pre-cruise Rome excursions work.  I have transfers to the port but I am not staying at a Carnival hotel so I would assume that I go to the airport but to where at the airport do I go?
    3. Does anyone have any information on day trips from Rome to Pompii
    4. Is there Skeet Shooting on the Freedom?

Any advise that anyone can give would be great.Smile

    Re: Transatlantic Cruise

I sailed on this cruise last year and liked it so much I'm going again.  The water and weather were great.  There was only one really rough day and it was when we were still in the Med Sea.  I actually enjoyed it but most didn't and there wasn't a line-up for anything all day and evening--bonus!  It only rained one day, while we were in Pisa, and the rest of the time was sunny and hot, as in "sit by the pool and soak it up" weather.

It was glorious on the ocean, although understandably a little breezy on open decks.  Here's a tip--don't wear a dress while playing mini golf.  Learned a lesson there, and lost at golf!

I don't remember any skeet shooting onboard, but there's a ton of things to do.  Even with all the extra sea days, which to me are just icing on the cake, you'll never be bored.  Even after two weeks onboard (was a little shorter last year), we realized there was still things we didn't do but meant to and places on board we hadn't seen.

The entertainment was fantastic usually, especially a show called "Ticket to Ride" which I heard was still playing.  The Piano Bar was the place to be before dinner and after and was hopping well into the nights.  There was a very large contingent of very senior citizens onboard last year so most of the clubs weren't well populated in the evenings and nowhere was too crowded to be.  We did notice the later dinner seatings weren't well attended.  My sister and I dined with 6 other people, a group that spontaneously formed because there were 3 tables of 8 close together, 2 of which only had 2 people at them, so we all invited each other to sit together at 1 table.  Having said that, last year the ship was not full, although they say it is this year, which is a little surprising considering the Spendor, which is new this year, is also making a transatlantic crossing this year.

Is anyone interested in a cocktail on the aft deck as we sail away?  Cate
