Anyone Sailing the Cruise to Nowhere out of Norfolk?

It does not appear that the CTN gets a lot of hype probably because of the short voyage, but it is just as funfilled as any other voyage!  We've sailed twice last year; booked for both voayges out of Norfolk this year 6/08 and 10/08 and one next year 10/09 (Triumph replaces Victory out of Norfolk in 2009).  This is definitely a plus for the uncertain first-timer.

Re: Anyone Sailing the Cruise to Nowhere out of Norfolk?

We're going on our third CTN from Norfolk.  I took my wife on her 1st three years ago. Ever since then she has been hooked, We have two cruises this year and one already for next year, besides the CTN which is going to be a yearly thing according to her. The new terminal at Norfolk get's you started on a really great experience.  We use the CTN to experiment with different cabins and locations on the ship. 1st was a oceanview in the most forward section facing the bow, the second was a suite (which she really really liked) now were going down to the bowels of the ship to check out an inside cabin.  I highly recommend the CTN to anyone who wants to try cruising but doesn't want to invest big bucks. Like one of my co-workers will testify you'll disover that you'll love to cruise or  you won't.

Hi, yes we are going. This is our first cruise on Carnival and the first out of Norfolk. We are from Va. Beach and decided to stay at the Sheraton on Friday night to make it a full weekend.

Yes- my husband and I are making this our first cruise ever, my sis and hubby are going with us, as well as my sis-in-law and her hubby (also their first cruise). We are all from NC and are very excited about getting to Norfolk Saturday!!! I learned the Norfolk Harborfest is going on this weekend, complete with the "tall ships," so it should be an active port that day with lots to see. Anyone know about how that will affect traffic/parking? Also, does Carnival ever start embarkation before the posted time? Thanks- Looking forward to the CTN!

Re: Anyone Sailing the Cruise to Nowhere out of Norfolk?

Yes, my husband and I are taking his mom for her very first cruise.  We live in VA near the Blue Ridge Parkway and mom has not seen much of the coast nor been on the water.  All her kids (7) pitched in to buy her ticket for her 75th birthday.  Our 2 grown sons will be going with us and they are first time cruisers also.  This will be my husband and my 4th cruise overall and our 2nd on the Victory.  We hope our boys like it enough that they'll want to take a week sometime.  For the inquiry about boarding early - yes, you can board as early as noon but, you won't be able to go to your room yet. You can roam around the ship, grab some lunch at the buffets and just take in the sights from the top of the ship overlooking Norfolk.  That is awesome!  The ship is huge so you will have lots of places to walk.  The atrium inside with the elevators is gorgeous.  Bring cameras and camcorders.  You can go to the website: www.cruisenorfolk.org and you can find all sorts of parking information.  Basically, you drop off your luggage at Nauticus in front of the ship and then drive to the assigned parking area.  A shuttle will then take you back to the ship to board.  Check out the site - it should help. Hope you have fun!

Re: Anyone Sailing the Cruise to Nowhere out of Norfolk?

My wonderful three children have clubbed together to give us this trip as a 25th wedding anniversary present.  We have never cruised before, and are really looking forward to it. (Victory - Cruise to Nowhere - June 7th)   The information you have given is very useful.  One question though, I can't find (in the FAQ) any reference to a smoking policy.  Can you help?

    Thanks so much.

This will be my second time on the CTN.  Enjoyed it so much last year.   I am going to make this a yearly event.    I love the balcony stateroom.

There our smoking areas available on the boat.  For example one side of the lido deck, casino, and bar.  Do not worry, you will be able to smoke.

This is my 2nd time on the CTN.  It is great and the Victory is a wonderful ship.

I  am staying in a hotel the night before  because I like to get on the ship early.  Getting on early gives you time to relax before the festivities start.   This is my 2nd CTN.  A great mini vacation.
