Ocho Rios Excursions - noncarnival booked

Have any of you ever taken the non-Carnival excursions?  The local tour companies?  I have found one that is way cheaper than Carnival and I am considering booking it - there are 6 of us and for an excursion to the Beach Club and Dunn's River Falls it is like $70 - whereas at this one company I found it is $36 US to the falls, Fern Gulley, Shopping, and back to the ship guaranteed on time - plus more personalized as with 6 of us, we get the tour to ourselves - plus we get to the falls before the other big tour buses do..

     Any insights/suggestions?

     Thanks1

My wife and I just returned and I would like to recommend to all Marva Shaw at www.knowjamaica.com .   This lady is just great.    We were met by Richard who was just fabulous.  He picked us up.  He entertained us with his local knowledge and wit.  He was polite to us and in his driving ( if you haven't been on the roads in Jamaica you're in for some excitment), he was attentive to our needs and wants and was just such a fine gentleman that we hated to leave him at the terminal.  Ms. Shaw called us a couple of times during the day to make sure everything was going well and we were greeted by her son at one of the stops just to be sure we were happy with their service.  Email her with what YOU want to do while in Jamacia and let her advise you.  You won't be disappointed.

We just came back from a 7 days cruise on the Triumph on June 8th. We booked an excursion with Phil Lafayette tours. The fee was $35.00 for adults and $25.00 for a child. We were 3 adults and 1 child. Phil's daughter , Tammy , met us at the port and guided us to an air-conditioned van. She took us to Dunn's fall and later on she showed us around town and key historical sights. In between the tours, she stopped a couple of times so that we can shop for souvenirs. The driver was friendly and Tammy narrated and sang for us through out the tour. By the end of the tour, we felt like  we were saying good bye to a good friend. The tour was worth every penny.

    BEKELE,

Did you book the excursion prior to sailing?  How did you find them?

Go to the web sight and book your excursion. We paid them in cash after the tour but they accept other forms of payment. After you book, they will send you a confirmation. We also tipped the driver $5.00.

DH can't walk up to the Dunns Falls, so we're thinking of doing an all-includive and/or Margaritaville pool.   Can anyone share their experiences on either of these?  Thanks so much:)

When we went to Ocho Rios, we went through an independent agency that provided private tour guides.  Our guides name was Kingsley.  He was awesome.  He picked us up and catered the day to what we wanted.  I love water and water falls and wanted to see Dunns River Falls; however, due to some medical restraints, I was unable to do the climb.  That was the first stop we made.  Kinglsey knew if we went directly from the port in his vehicle, we would beat the tours.  We arrived just as the park was open and it was pretty much empty.  He took us to a great spot mid way up, where we were able to walk in to the water and swim under some of the falls.  We were all alone.  Kingsley watched our bags and took pictures with our camera.  As we were leaving, we saw some of the groups begin to climb the falls.  He also took us to Margaritaville to eat, drove us to a look out far above the ports and showed us Keith Richards house.  We went to a wonderful botanical gardens and through the rain forest.  As we were driving, the local merchants would approach ( as we expected in Ocho Rios); however, since Kingsley was a local, they backed off when he told them to.  He asked us what types of trinkets we were looking for, and took us off the beaten path to find authentic hand crafted items.  We love Bob Marley music.  Kingsley took us to the Marley statue and up on a mountain to look down on the countryside where Marley is buried.  We had a great time, and it was not all that expensive.  I have all of the information on my other computer, including pricing and contact info.  If anyone is  interested, you could e-mail me and I will look it up for you.  My e-mail is : Lorriv@msn.com
