Crusing with kids.. New England worth it?

Our kids are 11 and 12.. we've only been on one cruise, Disney, and loved it.  We're planning to do a massive vacation next year but want to do something low key this summer.  We're considering the cruise to New England/Canada..

Has anyone done this with kids?  I'm not really sure it'll even be fun for me as I look forward to sand and pools on vacations..    I'm not really into 'shopping' and not really into admiring 'quaint'...  We want to have some fun and relax.. get wet a little bit.   Anyone have suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

I sure hope it is worth it!  Me, my hubby and 4 kids will be leaving on 6/10 to St. Johns, NB....  (boys ages 15, 13, 10 and 7).

To the person who asks about best ship to take kids?  This is my first time with the kids, but past experiences tell me, every ship I have been on had very happy children!  Especially Carnival who seems to give a little extra for the kids!

My kids love Carnival!  They are 11 and 13 and have a blast!  But just like anything else, it's all about your attitude and what you make of it.  If your plans are to drop your kids off at the Carnival programs (great way to have alone time with your spouse)- they'll have a great time.  There's dance parties, mini-golf, scavenger hunts, late night parties... there's always something going on.  But if you balance the programs with some family fun like dressing up to eat in the dining room, shore excursions as a family, even shows on the ship... doing those things as a family just make the trip better!  I couldn't imagine going on a cruise without our kids and no matter what the destination, we always have a blast!  In Canada, there are whale watches, the Bay of Fundy, display of Titanic artifacts... lots to do, just do some research and I'm sure you'll find something you all like.

My kids enjoyed camp carnival and teen activities so much that they were  afraid of missing any activities that they did not want to get off the ship.  I let them stay on.

I think you kids will have fun wherever they go.  But I am a little concerned about you.  Canada fits the description of exactly what you do not want.
