    Re: alaska cruise

My husband and I are looking into going on an Alaskan cruise June 09. He has a lot of info on it. I will post what we have found out this evening when i get home from work. We always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise and we are thinking about one of the tour cruises where you cruise and then tour Alaska or vice versa. How about you?

    Re: alaska cruise

We see that Carnival only has about a dozen Alaskan cruises a year and none of them are the cruise/land tours. We are looking into Holland America Ryndam because they offer the tour cruises that you cruise for a few days up or down the Alaskan shoreline and then go on land in Alaska for a few days and tour. We are looking at all and any Alaskan cruise and going for the best price for the bang for the buck. It will probably be 10-12 days. Hope this helps!

    • My family of 4 is going on the one-way alaskan cruise leaving out of Vancouver and will end in Seward. Do you know if we would have to fly back to Vancouver or is their other transportation?
    • Any hints on what are the best land excursions are worth going to take?

    thanks,

     Zee

    Re: alaska cruise

Zee, we are seeing that with the Holland America Lines, it is one way either going from Vancouver to Seward then Fairbanks or sothward from Fairbanks to Vancouver. You would be resposible for airfair from either destination. I don't know if there are flights directly from Fairbanks to say Seattle or Portland...wherever you want to fly to. We are just really starting to research this so have a good idea of the itineraries and prices, but not the flights and cost of those. We'd be flying from Florida. I went online to Holland AMerica, registered to get email notices from them and also requested a brochure. They sent a real nice brochure with different tour options and special pricing if we reserve a cruise by the end of Feb. Prices start at $1,200.00 for this special. Worth looking intp. Let me know if you find out anything interesting. Thanks!

    Re: alaska cruise

My husband and I are sailing on Spirit Aug 13, 2008, from Vancouver to Whittier.  We booked our own land option afterwards.  One day in Anchorage, followed by the domed train to Denali, hiking and rafting in Denali for 2 days, the bus back to Anchorage and flying out of Anchorage.

I used a company called Alaska Tour and Travel to book all of our land extras, and found them to be very affordable (I shopped other lines' CruiseTours).  It really wasn't a lot of extra work and you can customize your trip.
