    Transatlantic cruise

My husband and I were thinking of doing the transatlantic cruise next year and I was wondering what it is like crossing the Atlantic ocean.  Has anyone done one of these cruises?  Is it just as stable as most other cruises? or does it get somewhat rough out in the open ocean?  I'm still pondering this cruise, so the info would be nice.  My husband thinks it'd be interesting.... me not so sure.

We were toying with the idea also, but spending 5-6 days at sea I believe is a bit much, after  a while even though there is a lot to do I think it could get kind of repetitious and you can get boated out if there is such a word.I think it would be  the same  going across as going port to port,it all depends on the weather and if you get a storm going across it probably could get nasty. The thing that bothered me the most was the return airfare, which could be as much if not more than a round trip ticket.Just my opinion!!.

    Good Luck

    Re: Transatlantic cruise

I've done a transatlantic on Celebrity a couple of years ago.

The seas can and sometimes do get rough.

That being said we didn't hit any rough seas on my cruise.

The transatlantic cruises that carnival offers are re-positioning cruises and happen at the beginning and end of seasons. Typically April and October. These months typiclly have more volatile weather, so the chance of having rougher seas is better.

As far as all the time at sea, if you like sea days on other cruises than you would like the time at sea on a transatlantic. I personally love sea days and I really loved the transatlantic I did.

I'm currently booked on a 16 day transatlantic on the Carnival Splendor leaving Rome on October 29.

I found that the crossing days (sea days) were a great time to  relax and explore the ship.

    Hope this helps you.

My wife and I are booked for the transatlantic crossing from Rome, Italy to Port Everglades Fl. It is a 16 day trip. We have cruised before with another company. This is our first time with Carnival Cruise and also our first transatlantic trip. I just loved other sea days. 7 day cruise just isn't long enough. My opinion.  Jim

Just wondering.............you didn't mention what ship you were booked on or the date. My husband and I are booked for the TA on the Splendor in Oct 2008.  This is our first transatlantic and have mixed feelings but still looking forward to it. We've been on Carnival many times, but not for this long of a cruise. If you are going before us, you need to give us a first hand report when you return.

I'm actually booked on the same cruise as you, so I won't be seeing her until you do.

Brad.........since you've been on a TA before..........I just read from Kuki who is on a TA right now that they lost TV reception when they were way out at sea. Not that you have to have TV every day, but like he said you'd at least like to keep up with the news. Did your ship experience this?

I don't remember the TV being out on my crossing.

I was on a Northern crossing and the Splendor will be doing a southern crossing.

I suppose that could be why we had TV.

I also bring my portable DVD player to hook up to the TV and I usually watch movies.

We are booked for November 6 2008 on the Carnival Freedom. Can you let us know what your crossing is like?  Jim

My transatlantic on the Splendor doesn't end until Nov 14, so I won't be back in time.

But I can certainly post my thoughts after my cruise.

    Re: Transatlantic cruise

We did a TA 10 years ago on a much older ship (not Carnival) and we found it VERY relaxing, we were at sea for 6 days - did feel a little queazy at times but I was 4 months pregnant at the time too so I put it sown to the pregnancy, we sailed in December and I don't recall any bad weather.  The only disturbance we did have was one night been woken to everything falling off the shelf in the bathroom, didn't really give it much thought but found out the next day after 5 hours into our crossing they turned the ship around and went back to our last port as a gentleman had had a heart attack and it was better to take him back than keep him on the ship.  Our lost time was made up within the six days and we docked in Barbados right on time.

my hubby and I are looking at the transatlantic next year too.  We are bringing along our two teenagers with us.   Being at sea for five days seems long but with my experience we could never do everything that we wanted to on the ship.  So we are pretty excited about this one.

I didn't cruise carnival before but the ships that I have been on the days at sea are jam packed with events and shows and alot of fun stuff to do, I usually grabbed a good book and spent it laying around in the sun...oh yeah and eating...haha

We always have booked a balcony suite, It is nice for those mornings when you don't have to rush around for the shore excursions, drinking coffee and eating breakfast on the balcony it so relaxing....

anyhow I hope you decide to go.  Let us know.

    Happy cruising...

    Re: Transatlantic cruise

I recently booked the TA cruise leaving from miami next April.  I sometimes get queasy in rough water, so I'll be sure to bring some scopalamine patches with me.  I hope that having a fairly mid ship cabin will help with the nausea.  On my first cruise, we were in the bow and boy was I green when we were cruising by Cabo!

The return airfare can be expensive, strangely we found round trip tickets far far cheaper than one way.  We will just use the flight from london to seattle and toss the flight back.  It saved a lot of money.

this will be my second TA, the first one was so much fun, all accept for all the people that got sick.... so make sure you wash your hands (a lot)   anyway my point is we had so much fun we are doing it again.... for the five days at sea they where the best I really forgot what day it was and that's something for me I work almost 7 days a week... so just sit back and relax and it wasn't even a bumpy ride...lol
